Thanks to the continued support from @DACL_DC and a one-time $110,000 increase last year. LCE’s Legal Hotline stopped problems from spiraling into crises for even more DC older adults. We urge @councilfordc to make this funding permanent so we can keep helping those in need.

A 67-year-old woman, who was once homeless, faced eviction for owing $3,000 in rent. When the client called LCE, she was scheduled for eviction within a week. The client received financial help from her family and LCE helped her secure a grant to cover the rest.

DC residents who inherit a home with other heirs, may not qualify for tax breaks because they may own less than 50%. Proposed legislation would combine %'s between heirs. Tell your CM you want a hearing for the Senior Tax Aggregation Amendment Act of 2025.

A DC resident was cleared to leave a rehabilitation facility and wanted to go back to his Assisted Living Residence (ALR). Unfortunately, the ALR refused to take him back. We aggressively and successfully advocated for his right to return to the ALR, where he is, today.

For two years, our client fought to keep the home care workers she trusted — but a DC program meant to support her independence refused to pay them.
