TW: pedophilia
Friendly reminder that the guy who wrote Rurouni Kenshin is a pedophile.
Not a "ewww he ships weird stuff" deal.
He sexually exploited real living breathing children. He is an actual goddamn pedophile.
Do not buy his stuff. Do not give him money.

A) Child abuse doesn't need to be a pattern. If he randomly kicked his kid in the face 1x, it's still child abuse even if he's never done it before.
2) The fact that he thinks his daughter's distress is amusing says a LOT.
3) He deliberately set her up to fail. He admitted it.
@sarahhollowell
One of our cats made himself a little hidey-hole inside our old couch and we didn't know. Turns out, among other things he hid in there besides himself, there was an entire loaf of bread. Which he had been snacking on off and on for like 8 months.
If you as a fic writer who's never lived in a trailer automatically assume all of them are cluttered, musty, dirty, moldy, stinky, and just all-around gross and shitty, you probably shouldn't be writing fics about people who live in trailer parks.

My response to the mom:
"YTA. If he's doing well in school, which you claim, and he's stressed out, how is making him MORE STRESSED supposed to be helpful?
1/
@ellle_em
"It's not about cutting his WiFi. It's about yelling at him over nothing, spying on him like a creepy weirdo, and interfering with a process that is currently working for him, even if it's stressful.

Inside you are 2 wolves.
Now that I have your attention, stop using this format. Multiple Indigenous people & groups have said it's racist, and I've seen like 5 different ones TODAY.
Because JKR is a bigot, here’s some better middle grade fantasy to light up your life! Here's a 14-tweet thread, complete w/ cover art collages, of middle grade books you can buy & fall in love with instead of supporting HP.
Show time!

Due to conversation w/ people IRL, I'm doing a survey. Please retweet if you as a teen fell into 1 of these categories/know someone who did:
- 1-parent home
- YOU were a teen parent
- mentally ill
- chronically ill (asthma, diabetes, cancer, anything)
- 1 of your parents was ill
@ellle_em
"Video games often help with stress. You took his escape away - not because he wasn't getting good grades, but because you didn't like HOW he was getting them.

@do_not_drown
JK Rowling didn't intentionally write racist, rapey, transphobic, pro-abuse, pro-colonialism books about the superiority of all things white & British but she still DID it.
@ellle_em
"YTA, give him his WiFi back and apologize for being a controlling, sabotaging monster. Also, teens under pressure like this often hurt themselves. Is that what you want for your child?"
Posted to the subreddit.

"If your teen is stressed about life - in the middle of a pandemic, with climate change and all the bad political stuff happening - your job as the parent is to TALK to him and see if you can help, not make it worse.

I've noticed for the most part only white dudes lose their minds when confronted by the Elder Gods and I have to wonder if it's because they're abruptly confronted by the fact that they're not the center of the universe.

Literally. I use a wheelchair. I *need* to use it. I can walk, but walking a distance greater than 10-25 feet puts me at risk of collapse. Walking more than 30 feet guarantees it.
@branewurms
@johnroderick
On top of this, child abuse doesn't need to be deliberate to be abuse. Plenty of abusive parents think they're being helpful. But he refused to let her eat for almost 10 hours, ridiculed her, threatened her, & refused to teach her the lesson he claimed he wanted her to learn.

I mean, in the book there ARE no Black vampires, so that was on the movie.
Cuz...you know...apparently vampirism eats your melanin or something, according to Smeyer.
@KayAyDrew
Lol! I remember the time my mom came to pick me up wearing contacts with her hair up under her hat in a skirt (neither of which I'd seen at that point) and I was like "who dafuq is YOU???"
@sarahhollowell
We found out when he finally rip a giant hole in the couch and we saw all of his stuff in there. Mostly toys and socks. But also that loaf of bread.

The most violent, painful altercations of my life were before I turned 18 at the hands of my peers, including the time another kid tackled me to the ground and started choking me.
and even as an adult who explores pregnancy and bodily invasion as a horror and erotica topic, I'm often accused of misogyny bc i treat pregnancy as body horror or as parasitic FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF GENDER DYSPHORIA
@branewurms
@johnroderick
It's not just about the 6 hours (altho it was more like 10 & 9yos should eat btwn meals that far apart ANYWAY). It's about his deliberate sabotage of her effort, the ridicule, and the threats. You don't threaten to starve your goddamn kid.
@humansofny
Once I had 4 pieces of vanilla cake at a party and only 1 chocolate. My dad (who's black) told me that was enough cake. I told him that it would be racist against our own people not to eat the same amount of chocolate cake. I was 11. He thought it was hilarious and gave me more.

Yeah. Must be nice to be able to bend that way. My life-partner literally can't put their own socks on due to a disabled leg. I can bend that way but only on days where I'm not too sick to stand up. Must be nice to be able to just...DO things.

And at that age she is extremely vulnerable to messages ab weight, body image, foo. And he's just shown her, probably not for the 1st time, punishment for not being 100% self-sufficient is she's not allowed to eat. She has to Finish the Tasks before she can eat. That's fucked up.
One thing I really do love about being autistic is that my autism makes me appreciate small joys more because they're not small to me. The way fire dances, the silkiness of foaming soap, the brilliant green of pistachio croissants, the way dust motes look in a sunbeam. 🥰🥰🥰
@spencerfleury
@shaindelr
You seriously think an abusive man wouldn't ask people to help him abuse his wife? When one thing abusive people do CONSTANTLY is cultivate a circle of enablers in order to use them as ammo against their victims?
@bananasclips
Also I mean, cutting isn't just from depression. Cutting can be a sign a person feels their life is spiraling out of control, or they have anger issues, or self-image problems, or were addicted to one thing and are struggling with quitting, etc.
@ClementsAustinJ
When I was a nanny, I was leaving for the day and my boss hit something and yelled, "Fff...farfignugen!!!" Because she didn't want to say fuck in front of the 4yo.
He tried to say farfignugen.
He said "fucking nugget." Like 10x. We could not stop laughing.
The "my parents did X to me and I'm fine" response never works.
You didn't turn out fine. You think hurting a kid b/c they annoyed you is acceptable. You think their autonomy & consent are irrelevant. You don't respect them as free, thinking, sentient beings.
You're not fine.

Okay, so tip if you want, but this way you know that it's extra money for them and they're being treated fairly if they're wait staff.

Pretty sure OP is talking about the attitude that caused Disney to slam the old Snow White when hyping up the new one as being more feminist because a brown abuse survivor gets to be "strong & independent" instead of wishing for rescue or romance.

@BrandyBeansH
Right? If a guy at my old job came up to me and said "heard you were having a rough time so I made some Mac & Cheese," I would happy-cry. Also if he followed up with "the noodles are shaped like dinosaurs," I'd squeal with delight.
This is not heartwarming, this is heartbreaking. A DYING CHILD shouldn't live in a society so awful that it takes A CHILD DYING TO FEED HOMELESS PEOPLE.
...like, are you reading your headline? A CHILD had to become TERMINALLY ILL in order for people to NOT STARVE.
What the FUCK

That was the point but it was a bad point. Basically showing her becoming a "real" adult instead of a doe-eyed Disney princess 🙄

"I just can't get into a story that combines Judeo-Christian and Celtic mythologies. That just doesn't make sense."
1) Judeo-Christian isn't a real thing
2) this was on a fanfic for Hellboy 2, where an Abrahamic demon fights a Celtic god-prince to the death

Among other things he is the voice of Simon the Chipmunk (the one with glasses) in the latest Alvin & the Chipmunks movies. He also plays a very popular FBI agent character on a crime show.

...there's a novel I love where a bunch of rich people do this and die and a 17yo autistic scientist becomes the new queen and is like, "Hey, the system is corrupt and I hate it. Lemme fix shit."

Seems like how other people spend their money is their own goddamn business and not a valid reason to act like a shithead in public, but that might just be me. 🙃

My mom&bro complained ab Idris Elba being Roland the Gunslinger in The Dark Tower b/c "cowboys are white." I was like "1 in 5 were black, 1 in 3 were Jewish, 1 in 4 were Hispanic, 1 in 10 were Indigenous also he's not from this world" and they were like, "I think you're wrong."

@Ocasio2018
And because of that, throwing chemical weapons on children legally seeking asylum from a situation the US created after the Supreme Court said not to is okay with you?
What's it like, being okay with the government literally torturing toddlers? What sleep aids do you use?
So this is being appropriately dragged in the replies but:
1) OP is right ab how students of color were unfairly kept out of gifted programs
2) Most of the "I used to be 'gifted'" tweets OP is trying to drag were written by neurodivergent and/or mentally ill people

It's peaceful. She's not in physical danger, she's got her family, she's not in danger of starving, the Hunger Games are gone, and she & Peeta are starting to heal. For a war vet, that's pretty good.

By calling someone w/ ADHD (this also applies to some autistic people) and breaking our momentum, you've reset our executive functionality back to 0 and now we have to rev up again, as it were. Which can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

It's stated the children choose, but usually subconsciously and the Hat just spits out their choice. Harry subconsciously wanted what Slytherin represents - power. Because he'd been powerless all his life. But Hagrid told him only bad people go to Slytherin, hence his conflict.
