Updated information for shelter: People that have been displaced by the evacuations can receive shelter, food, and resources at Ritchie Valens Rec Center located at 10736 Laurel Canyon Blvd, Pacoima, CA 91331.

CD 7 Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez’s office is working with LAPD to provide vouchers for people displaced by the evacuation, and you can reach out to their office if you have been affected by this incident.

This is a slow and methodical process to ensure safety of the community, as well as the personnel working the incident. We are grateful for the patience of the community members affected by this incident and subsequent evacuations.

They are currently working to identify all of the potentially dangerous materials to be able to safely secure the affected area. ATF, LAFD, and the EPA are currently on scene assisting with these efforts.

LAPD Bomb Squad has identified explosive material inside of the partially collapsed structure, some of which is black powder, which is known to be used in construction of illegal homemade fireworks.

Additionally, 4 dogs were rescued from the damaged home. There have been no other reports of additional victims. We are continuing to work with local, state, and federal partners to ensure that the surrounding area and community remains safe.

During the initial investigation, officers reported seeing possible fireworks in the damaged house, and LAPD bomb squad was notified and responded to the location, where they are currently working to deem the area safe. The surrounding homes have been evacuated.

On March 20 around 9am LAPD Foothill Division & LAFD responded to the 13000 blk of Remington St for reports of an explosion. An adult male was transported by LAFD paramedics to a local hospital with severe injuries and burns.
