increased adoption. Might be something about the technology, that the field days were very participatory, or that they gave pretty focused information on a specific technology, but these are a bit speculative. Anyways, doing research is fun and this project was no exception!.

The field days turn out to be cost effective and work better for poorer farmers. Other work has found field days to be less effective in different contexts (see fascinating work by @raissafabregas or @michelson_hope). Can’t definitively say why the intervention we looked at.

selection methods for the farmers who first cultivated the seeds and were the “demonstrators” during the field days. Didn’t find much there. The field days worked just as well when the demonstrators were selected by local govt officials as when they were selected by villagers.

seed variety with existing RCT evidence of profitability (we overlook this too often imo). We find that the field days increase adoption of the seed by just over 40%. Information frictions are legit and these meetings helped to overcome them! We crossed in different.

There are many ways to help farmers learn about new technology in dev countries. Our RCT looks at one of these: farmer field days - meetings where an NGO facilitator provides information and helps lead a discussion between farmers about a new technology. The technology is a new.
