Land has always felt unaffordable because it is. @EvanShout and @TrentKlarenbach don’t always agree, but they do on this: the market rarely reflects economic value. It’s time more of us separate operating returns from land ownership.

You don’t need a field of robots. You need one great operator, two smart machines, and a system that makes you better every season. That’s where ag tech is going.

The next generation might farm, or they might sit on the board. Either way, Taylor & Riley are setting up a structure that can flex with the future. They are building a farm that works for their lives, not just the other way around.

Lots of people are tracking the decline in small farms. Ben Voss connects it to something we all deal with: fewer used equipment buyers, and inflated values that don’t make sense anymore.

Let them make mistakes. Leadership on the farm is about doing. In business, it’s about guiding. Benn Voss had to learn that stepping back is sometimes the strongest move a leader can make.

Working more hours is not leadership. Matt Wallington got clear on what growth actually takes. Structure. Focus. Strategy.

Fear doesn’t go away - you just learn to recognize it for what it is. I start with the end: where I want to be, and how confident I am we’ll get there. Then I work backwards. That’s how I deal with stress.

Someone told me their friend lost the farm because of one thing: personal spending. Not bad business. Not bad crops. Just unchecked cost of living. It’s time to track drawings like we track fertilizer. No one wants a surprise from the accountant.

Some solid thoughts from @DarylFransoo . The opportunity cost of these policies is a heavy weight on western Canadian grain and oilseed producers specifically.

I am deeply frustrated with the Canadian government’s reckless trade policies, which are putting our farmers in jeopardy. The threat sparked by tensions over supply management and the digital services tax, is a direct blow to Western Canadian grain and oilseed producers. These.

More land will change hands in the next 5 years than the past 5, but not the way you think. It’s not sales. It’s quiet exits. Aging farmers, no appetite for risk, and equipment that’s too expensive to justify. Listen in to our conversation with @todd_andries:

Drought. High costs. And the worst cash flow since 2011. But the elephant in the room?. Farms pulling over $50/acre for living expenses. It’s unsustainable. Do you talk about what the farm can actually afford?

Seeding’s done, but the work isn’t. Spraying. Trucking. Cleaning. Shop work. At HGV, strong processes keep our people moving & our farm running. Idle time is the enemy of efficiency.

Scrap it or protect it. That’s the usual supply management debate. @FoodProfessor offers a third option: reform the system with clearer benchmarks, more transparency, and a long-term roadmap. Check out the latest episode of the Truth About Ag:

Without strong leadership, Canadian ag has become fragmented—and it's costing us. @FoodProfessor says the focus on competitiveness is gone & that’s why policy leans on sticks instead of offering carrots. What do you think?. Check out the episode:
