"Not only does it become difficult to modify measures that aren’t clearly working, but a tremendous amount of resources are directed toward the appearance of quality rather than its substance."

Looking forward to returning to KCMO for @AAFP’s National Conference. What could be better than connecting with #FamilyMedicine students, exploring residency opportunities and sneaking in some KC BBQ? #AAFPNC #FMRevolution https://t.co/1OXek4RmbY

“Unskilled labor” is a myth the ruling class made up to justify poverty wages. All labor is skilled labor. Every job deserves a living wage.

Men,are you listening? You don’t set boundaries for your woman friend, baby mama or wife. You set boundaries for yourself. You’re the only person you may legitimately control.

one of my biggest strengths as a future doctor will be how i counsel/educate my patients. i grew up having to interpret for my family and having to break down medical information in a way that they would understand. now whenever i counsel my patients, i use this same strategy.

I rarely hear this take from the parent. It’s usually the child that had to deal with this.

Let’s talk about Black physicians (5% of all physicians). We have statistically lower MCAT and Step scores. However, Black physicians taking care of Black patients decreases mortality. If we let less Black applicants into medical school, more patients will die. Period.

Gentle reminder that prejudice + power is the definition of racism. You can be prejudiced and even biased (which many people are) but once you have the power to carry out systemic discrimination - THAT is racism.

Doctor to me a wheelchair user: “I’d like to examine you. Can you get on the exam table?” Me: “No. Not without assistance. It’s much higher than my wheelchair.” Doctor: “Ok. Maybe next time.” Doctor’s post-visit notes: “Patient declines exam.”
