Of the total volume, 1,632 metric tons have been allocated to the DSWD to enhance its emergency relief operations in preparation for typhoons & other natural calamities. An additional 384 metric tons will be delivered to BARMM to aid peace & development initiatives in the region.

The Government of the Republic of Korea has donated 2,016 metric tons of rice to support the Philippines’ efforts in disaster response, climate change adaptation, and peacebuilding.

Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa attended the rice handover ceremony held at the DSWD-NCR warehouse on 6 August, together with Rex T. Gatchalian, the Secretary of the DSWD and Regis Chapman, the Country Director of the WFP in the Philippines.

Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa paid a courtesy call on Hon. Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro on 16 July at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo and discussed the robust defense cooperation between Korea and the Philippines.

Marking the 9th anniversary of the South China Sea Arbitral Award, we reiterate that peace, stability and rules-based order in the SCS must be upheld together with the freedom of navigation and overflight based on the principles of international law, including UNCLOS.

Amb. Lee, in his commemorative address, paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the veterans who helped Korea during its toughest times, expressing his gratitude for their valiant dedication in the form of scholarships for their descendants.

In attendance were Amb. Lee Sang-hwa, DND USec Pablo Lorenzo, Korean War veterans and their families, ROK Marine Corps Comrades Association in the PH, the Veterans Association, NUAC, the Korean International School, as well as students & teachers from Cheontae Elementary School.

The Embassy, together with the Department of National Defense of the Philippines and the Korean War Veterans Association (PVAI), commemorated the 75th anniversary of the Korean War at the Philippine Heroes National Cemetery on 25 June.
