The Cab-drivers' Society was a significant trade association formed in April 1874 in Pimlico. It was established by cab drivers to address their grievances and improve working conditions, marking the beginning of a formal reform movement within the industry.

Then & Now: Farringdon Street, winter of 1962 - 1963. Said to be the coldest winter since records began. Even in London the snow hung around for 3 months. 1963 was the year I left school and I remember all the news was about England heading for an ice age.

Then & Now: Prince Consort Road, 1904. The area of Albertopolis, the cultural and scientific district established after the Great Exhibition of 1851. The Royal Albert Hall was a prominent landmark, and a photo from the era shows a hansom cab on the road.

Jeremy Bentham made an unusual request, for his body to be publicly dissected after his death to advance medical science, preserved as an "auto-icon" dressed in his own clothes, padded with hay. Given to UCL in 1850 and is now on display in a glass case.

The Jeremy Bentham pub in London is now closed, previously known as the "Lord Wellington" or "Welly Bar". The pub was renamed in 1982 to honor the philosopher and was known for its association with UCL and for displaying a wax head of Bentham.
