After a day in this Tesla Model 3 I got back into my petrol BMW and tried to leap into a gap in traffic - but the power & torque just wasn't there! Just noise & delay! I was furious!
You can't call yourself a real driver and tolerate combustion. It's dead, Victorian-era crap.
Left: 2-stroke combustion outboard motor.
Middle: electric outboard motor.
Right: 4-stroke combustion outboard motor.
😳
Look at the filthy water pollution after just five minutes or runtime and under NO LOAD.
I freaking love that I can just plug a car into a socket. No gas, ever. No smell. Near zero running costs. Plus electric cars are more fun to drive.
It's just better. 😊
Unpopular opinion: Pure EVs should have precedence over PHEVs at public rapid chargers. I don't wanna see your hybrid combustion machine blocking the rapid charger with its 17 kW DC trickle charge while a *real* EV is waiting.
No wonder oil companies want us to be locked into hydrogen. 💵💰💸 It's like gasoline but somehow even worse.
Yeah, nah. You can keep that failed experiment. I'll just charge at home for $5 instead. 😎
Just a normal sight in 2024: an electric car hauling an electric digger. Both of them getting a 20 minute rapid charge before a long day of cheap, emission-free work.
This entire concept angers oil drinkers and it's absolutely delicious to observe. 😂
3 different motors.
15 mins of zero-load running.
One of these motors is electric. See if you can spot it. Hint: it's the one that hasn't just made the water poisonous. 👍
I've been emailing with this dude in China who upgrades Nissan Leaf batteries. Here's one he's just finished: an old 24 kWh Leaf with a fresh, new 63 kWh battery! 😍
Oof. This dude in the UK woke up to find his tyres slashed and a warning left about his emissions because he was driving a 'gas guzzler'.
Only one tiny little problem: his car is 100% electric.
I'm now wondering if some folks out there aren't actually very bright. 🤔
Toyota's released another EV press release, I think it's the third one today. Not sure.
Either way, out of all the containers available to use, they chose... this one.
Holy cow. This battery-powered SUV from Chinese manufacturer Li Mega has a 102 kWh battery (range of around 600 km (372 miles) and has been demonstrated charging from 10% to 80% in under 11 mins, hitting 521 kW peak.
It's such a satisfying feeling having an electric car suckling away in the garage. When I wake up it'll be fully charged on renewable electricity for less than the cost of a small Big Mac combo. It's such a great feeling. Electric car drivers: you know what I'm talking about!
That's impressive. Dude put a supercharged V8 into a Tesla Model S. The workmanship is staggeringly good and I love the madness of the idea, but dude's dumped loads of time & cash into making slower, clunker car? Hats off to the engineering tho!
Oh, that's hilarious. This hydrogen fuel cell vehicle needed to be transported on a flatbed to show it off it at the NZ Golf Open in Queenstown because the entire South Island of New Zealand has no way to refuel it. You can't make this up. 😂
Just let it go. It's so Fetch.
Once you own an electric car you REALLY notice the stench of old fashioned combustion technology. Similar to when smoking was banned in bars & restaurants, it's hard to imagine someone next to you lighting up a cigarette while you're having a meal today. That's ICE cars in 2024.
This is a HUGE 100% battery powered tug right here in New Zealand. We went head-to-head with a dirty diesel tug in Auckland harbour.
The planning, filming & editing took WEEKS and the finished result was epic, but sadly Twitter's Algo Rhythm decided it sucks. 😭
Update on the mystery car: whoever parked the Nissan Leaf in my driveway left the key. It powers up. Doesn't look healthy though. I have so, so many questions. What the heck is going on? Why is my life like a 90s sitcom?
FINALLY! The Nissan LEAF motor is installed in the Austin Allegro:
Grab some popcorn, kick back and see how it happened... and what's coming next.
I'm so jazzed right now! 😁
I read recently of a foreign visitor to Auckland airport who kept hearing bizarre announcements for a passenger to make their way to the 𝘔𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯.
It took them some time to realise the kiwi announcer was asking the passenger to go to Domestic Check-in. 😂
I love this trend of seeing gas pumps getting removed and replaced by electric car chargers.
Coming to a petrol station near you. And sooner than your conspiracy theorist uncle is mentally prepared to handle! 😂
Got some more photos from the dude in China who upgrades tired old Nissan Leafs to new 63 kWh CATL batteries. He uses the same battery casing with only a few millimetres difference in height. It's such a shame no NZ companies are offering this.
Hey kiwi drivers, fresh road rules just came into law:
If you park your combustion car in a space reserved for electric car charging, your smelly car is getting towed and you're getting fined.
[Rule 2023, Clause 6.4, Oct 1]
Oh, and good morning. 😊
Fascinating pic of the Tesla Cybertruck showing quite a lot of smudges & marks. Could be a challenge to prevent these big beasts from looking like a fridge in a house full of 3-year olds.
Oh my god oh my god oh my god! The electricians were also HVAC technicians. They installed everything! I now have air conditioning in my bedroom just as we are about to break summer heatwave records! Excuse me while I go hibernate in bed for 2 months. 😂
BYD in China just dropped this ad saying "Electric Cheaper Than Gasoline".
This BYD car starts at $11,100 USD and they say it's sending ICE makers "into a panic".
This is happening in China TODAY and in global markets this year. Are Legacy car makers are ready for this?
What happened to all the anti-EV nutjobs who stated that electric car batteries go to landfills every two years?
They've stopped using that line lately and if I'm completely honest I'm much more disappointed in their lack of consistency & backbone than their lack of facts.
Um, that's kind of a big deal.
It's no secret that EVs are finally getting affordable, but within a few months, battery prices are going to PLUMMET by 50%.
Gas is dead. 😂
EV nut & awesome human Greg was rapid-charging his electric digger & electric car again ready for another day of work - but without cancerfumes or loud noise. I can't wait for this to be the norm. Also, it annoys the oil drinkers, so it's a win-win. 😁
Got a price from the guy in China selling retrofit 63kWh batteries for old Nissan Leafs: $5000 USD! 😮
(+ shipping: $400-$500).
Imagine having a tired old Leaf with 400+ km range!
Obviously, buy at your own risk but I'll put his details below if anyone wants to have a go?
My face when a person who, many years ago, told me matter-of-factly that "those electric cars will never work" suddenly messages me asking what EV they should buy.
I remember. 😉
I love that this thing automatically started refuelling itself while I was asleep, using cheap, renewable, off-peak electricity.
I know this phenomenon is commonplace now, but I will never stop being amazed by it.
Once you go electric you won't want to go back.
AWESOME NEWS! Thanks to a donation from my employer Ecotricity NZ, I've just splashed out on a vehicle control module to turn on the Nissan Leaf motor!
It should arrive in a few days and then I can begin wiring it up to see if this Leaf motor in the Allegro actually works! 😅
Took a lot of faffing about but I GOT THE WIPERS WORKING!!!
That shiny new window wiper motor is doing a great job. Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
This is a 2024 Polestar 2 Long Range and I broke a personal distance record driving it on one clean, cheap charge:
Why even bother with cancerfuels/hydrogen fool cells when you can buy this today?
It's a gas car killer. ⚰️ 💀
Oh my god oh my god. I DESIGNED THAT STICKER!!!
(100% electric, not Simon's Cat) 😲
I designed it back when I lived in Europe and I released the file to the public domain so that people might want to put it on their own cars. Amazing!!
Gosh that Nissan Leaf motor looks good sitting in the Austin Allegro. We're aiming to make some serious progress next weekend on the motor mounts and reinforcing. I've got itchy feet 😁
Remember that muppet who smashed up the Tesla chargers in Taupo then ran off to hide? Well, police caught him.
Funniest part? Guess what kinda vehicle he owns. There's a clue in the pic. 😄 How can a dude with such a big ute be so fragile??
Another great weekend at Everything Electric in Australia but alas, it's time to head back to New Zealand.
First class is really the best way to fly.
Well, I assume it is. The flight attendant was nice enough to let me briefly sit in one of the seats and take a photo. 😅
Getting the Nissan electric motor into this old girl was the hardest part of the entire project. Thanks again to Bob the Builder who masterminded this feat of engineering. In a few days I'll be trailering the Allegro to Auckland to start the next big (expensive) step!
I'm not often star-struck, but after meeting the legendary
@bobbyllew
, my brain didn't believe it was real so (I regret this daily) I reached out my finger and... gently poked him.
It happened so slowly that we both had time to think, "What... is he doing?"
I'm so sorry. 😐
$10 to fill an EV at home on clean, climate positive electricity (you're welcome) or $176 to fill a combustion cancercar at a cancerstation because f*ck future generations.
Oh, such a tough choice. 😂
Why is it that absolutely everyone loves classic cars getting upgraded to electric power? There's just something cool about them. They are guaranteed crowd pleasers.
My favourite response to folks who say "combustion/hydrogen etc is better" is to just agree, saying "Yeah it's better. That why you pay more".
It shuts them up, they're happy, but boy... do they think about your answer for the rest of the day!
Mental warfare for the win! 😂😂
I have far too much fun with trolls.
Years ago I used to dread them; they'd ruin my mood. But nowadays I'm not bothered at all and even enjoy playing with them.
I OFTEN hear:
"Electric cars are just for the rich!"
or
"But a cheap Leaf isn't good enough!"
So I made this:
I thought THIS will go viral because it answers those complaints!
Ha. It flopped.
Turns out people don't want solutions, they just wanna moan. 😠
How does one say, "I've been trying to tell you hydrogen was a scam for two decades now" in marketing speak?
Just give up on this oil company-led nightmare and go pure electric already. Being tied to the pump is so 𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘩. 😂
Look at all these rapid chargers installed in Auckland for electric buses! As a person with a respiratory system this is great news (raw diesel smoke has been proven more dangerous than second hand cigarette smoke).
Cleaner, quieter, healthier city streets are FINALLY coming!
