7 Years ago, we made a private barrel of whiskey for
@alexisohanian
. It became the HIGHEST BARREL PROOF WHISKEY we've ever heard of, with only 3 bottles left in the barrel at 177.4 proof.

Dear
@IrishWhiskeyAsc
, we'll answer for a lot, but accusing us of misleading consumers is fighting words around here. You want to pick a fight, we return the effort. See attached for our correspondence with your overzealous attorneys which we thought should be public (1/7):
I really would have thought people might have diversified their interests in American whiskey by now, but I still see so many posts about Buffalo Trace products and pricing. Really? This is how you want to spend your time? The world has so much more...
Mindful drinking is a great exercise. Consider what you are drinking. Who makes it? What are their values? Who benefits from your purchase? We support drinking less and drinking more thoughtfully when you imbibe. Considered consumption is a good exercise all around.
Very excited to share the news of my new book. Part memoir, part travelogue, part tasting notes. I tasted 200 of my favorite whiskeys, all for you, dear reader. May 14th!
Barrel No 2021 just shy of 9 year, 137.4 pf, on sale tomorrow sat march 9at noon on site and on line. Classic kcd barrel proof profile: cherry cola oak butterscotch. Yum. $150.
Whiskey doesn't really age that much after a few years but wood continues to age—and it's the interaction with maturing wood that makes whiskey more complex, not time itself. Seems an under-appreciated distinction to me.
The bourbon world is bigger than Kentucky, and these are the 10 best bottles that prove it.

For anyone wanting to become an expert on American whiskey, let us save you the trouble with this handy rating guide! Now you don't even need to taste the whiskey to know!
Some professional news! 👔👔 After much careful deliberation and blending, we are releasing this year's BARREL STRENGTH BOURBON today at 130 proof. Get it while it lasts.
If you’ve ever bought a whiskey with an age statement, then you’ve shown you care about transparency. Why stop there? Ask for more information and see who gives it.
I'm excited to announce our PRE-PROHBITION whiskey series! All the aged whiskeys in our existing pot-distilled 19th-century-style portfolio qualify! Be suspicious of any other source delivering modern whiskey in old-timey packaging.
I know a few people missed out on the single barrel release last week, so here's an early crack at this year's barrel strength. Ordering is LIVE NOW while it lasts:
I stumbled across some kings county barrel strength batch 14 at one of my local liquor stores. This stuff is so damn good. Thanks again
@KingsCoWhiskey
for making such fine bourbon.
It's a bummer when you are at a nice restaurant and they are promoting a bourbon brand that did little more than heating up the frozen meal in the microwave.
Bourbon is entering a new era, and
@BreakingBourbon
gets it spot on with this piece: . If you haven't read it, go now. If you have gotten this far, let me reintroduce you to Kings County Distillery, (a thread).

$3 billion dollar Domino Sugar Factory renovation asks us to donate product to their opening party, apparently has no budget to support neighboring business. We're not a charity, but even if we were, I don't think they need our "sponsorship."

At some point in American Whiskey we are going to start talking about pot stills. While everyone is still hung up on barrel entry proof and barrel finishes, the most fundamental production distinction is being overlooked.

We're releasing our 2022 BiBs this week: our standard BiB, now a 6-year and a black-label 7-year. Enjoy this picture of Old Taylor's Bonded Bottling Hall to celebrate this 125-year law and tradition.
I'm hoping everyone is enjoying their newly regained crypto wealth and suggest you convert some of it to America's safest investment™, bottled American whiskey.
IN STOCK RIGHT NOW at the tasting room, we have barrel strength empire rye, award winning barrel strength bourbon, 8-year distillery exclusive lightly peated single barrel, and the 82% HazMat (pours only). It might be a good time for a visit...
Everyone in bourbon hopes that international business will absorb excess capacity, but I expect more global brands sold in the US, not vice versa. US is far more likely to adopt Baijiu, Soju, world whiskeys: more diversity here is the pattern. Only a few US brands have Intl legs.
Use this handy map to find your source for Kings County across the land! Ask your store to order through our great network of distributors listed here.
Bourbon boring? I guess you finally figured out the same stuff in different packaging isn't that exciting after all? Especially at triple the 2011 price?
One thing that's nice about the Scotch Whisky Regulations is you can't just make up a distillery name and advertise that your product was distilled there. What a concept.
If you can blind taste a whiskey and tell me if it was stored vertically in barrels or horizontally, you are allowed to pontificate on the relative merits of storage techniques.
We used to get 10 emails a day asking us to donate to charities and fundraisers. Now it's 10 emails a day for samples to an instagram/TikTok review platform. I miss the old days?
Thought you all would appreciate this infographic. 1.2% of corn goes to beverage alcohol (but let's assume half of that is Titos). I'd guess less than .5% goes to whiskey.
"I, perhaps more than any other American whiskey distiller, want truth and transparency from producers. But coming after a small producer with a spurious and patently ridiculous claim of misleading consumers is not the way to protect Irish whiskey." (7/7)
My response to the revised TTB rules being proposed at . Thanks to
@SkusRecentEats
for the initial review of the proposed regulations, which merit more scrutiny and commentary from our industry and colleagues.

Here's a little fun fact about our whiskeys: the color of the cap tells you the dominant grain in the mashbill: silver-corn, gold-rye, black-barley, and the elusive but extant white-wheat.

A whiskey is either bonded or not. Theres no gray area and no ambiguity. Either you play by the rules or get out of the arena. “Kinda bonded” is mot a category.
I look forward to the day we can talk about cooperage quality when we are talking about American whiskey. Not all barrels are made equal, and for a $75 bottle, you deserve whiskey aged in the best barrels on the market, not commodity entry-level barrels.
"We love Irish Whiskey and we love truth in labeling even more. We both want the same things. But there is Irish Whiskey, which belongs to you, and there is the tradition of Irish distilling which belongs to the world." (5/7)
Here's my business idea for the day: a delivery company that delivers liquids in bottles without breaking them? Could be huge. Or maybe
@fedex
can start an "artisanal delivery" division where they actually handle packages carefully with an intent to preserve the contents?
Direct-to-Consumer shipping serves as an important complement to the traditional three-tier system of beverage alcohol distribution and has been a critical lifeline for craft distilleries during the pandemic.
