The game isnāt about politics ā itās about preparation. If youāre good enough, if you work hard enough⦠they canāt ignore you.

This is why I coach athletes the way I do ā because I know where I failed. And this is why I always preach: Find a coach whoās been where you want to go. If they havenāt been there, they canāt truly relate to the grind, the setbacks, or the reality of what it takes to make it.

And if politics is truly a factor? It always works itself out. Either itās going to teach you how to deal with adversity⦠or itās going to lead you to transfer. Either way, youāll learn a lesson thatāll serve you in life.

Now , donāt get me wrong. Sometimes politics can come into play, especially now with NIL deals turning sports into even more of a business. But trust me ā 90% of the time, if you truly are the best player on the field, you will play. These coaches want to win.

But the truth? I just didnāt work hard enough ā and Iām okay with saying that now. Looking back, I can see all the extra reps, the conditioning, the film study⦠the stuff I could have done but didnāt.

šÆ Bottom line: Just because someone has energy, runs hard sessions, or gets along with kids doesnāt mean theyāre qualified. Coaching is deeper than vibes. Itās about development, progress, and actually knowing what youāre doing.

š Thatās not coaching. Thatās copying. Real coaches understand the why behind every drill ā not just the look.

š© 4. The āInstagram Trainer.ā Scrolls IG, finds a drill from someone famous, and runs it the next day with zero context, no progression, and no understanding of what itās actually training.

š All these cones and ladders look good on video, but if itās not improving an athleteās deceleration, reacceleration, or game-speed movement. Itās a waste of time.

š© 3. Fancy footwork drills with no real purpose. If the drill doesnāt translate to the field or court ā why are we doing it?

š Hard ā Smart. Weāre training ATHLETES, not bodybuilders. Performance training should be structured to improve movement, mechanics, and power ā not just burn kids out for clout.

š© 2. āThe workout was hard, so it must be good.ā Wrong. Just pushing sleds, doing 100 walking lunges down and back, or leaving kids gassed doesnāt make it quality.

But letās be clear: Iām not out here coaching D-line when I never played it, or claiming Iām a basketball coach or soccer coach when Iāve never stepped on that court or field

š„ #FactsFriday š„ Letās talk about some RED FLAGS š© in performance coaching that parents and athletes need to stop ignoring: š© 1. āI train every sportā ā but now heās coaching positions he never played. Yes, athletes from every sport need performance training ā thatās facts.

If your coach tells you to stop training completely for 3ā4 months⦠Thatās not protecting you. Thatās stalling your development.
