We can’t forget that Sen
@KamalaHarris
helped paved the way for many progressive prosecutors in office today, including me. Her time in office helped shape the holistic approach to criminal justice reform that we see today.
Thank you, Sen.
@BernieSanders
! When I first ran on a platform that included a holistic approach to criminal justice reform, it was different than what previous prosecutors had ever attempted.
U.S. Sen.
@KamalaHarris
’ support holds a special place for me. As one of the few Black female district attorneys, she's a source of inspiration and has helped paved the way for implementing reform in the criminal justice system.
I’m so excited that
@KamalaHarris
has decided to run for president. I would not be where I am today without her guidance during my first run for political office, and she has continued to mentor me as I work to reform the criminal justice system in Cook County. —KF
I am honored to have the support of Sen.
@ewarren
, who has dedicated her career to America’s working families. Excited to have
#TeamWarren
on
#TeamFoxx
!
.
@KimFoxxForSA
is a seasoned advocate and a champion invested in rethinking the county’s approach to criminal justice reform. I’m confident that when reelected, she'll continue to be an effective public servant who leads with compassion, and I'm proud to endorse her!
5 years ago today. This was the first time I met Vice President
@KamalaHarris
. In the time since, her work has continued to inspire me and generations of young women around the world to become champions of our communities. She was one of the first, but she will not be the last.
I'm excited to see my friend,
@KamalaHarris
's, plan to expand voting rights for all Americans. Voting is a fundamental right and we need to ensure that no one has to compromise their health and safety to do it.
“I have a 17-year-old who rarely wants to watch TV with her parents — she’s sitting between me [and my husband], she’s cheering — watching her watch Sen.
@KamalaHarris
makes me proud.”
Let’s be clear, this was not a protest gone awry. These are domestic terrorists engaged in an insurrection incited by the soon-to-depart President. Let us not shirk from what is happening here. This is lawlessness and disorder rooted in Trump’s embrace of white supremacy.
I'm proud to see Rep.
@AyannaPressley
shed light on the threats and vitriol that so many women of color face when they speak out against injustice. Our very existence is resistance.
Thank you to the volunteers, supporters, and friends that made last night's victory possible. I'm so proud of the hard work
#TeamFoxx
has put in over the past few months. Our work does not stop here - Together, we will continue the fight.
I appreciate everyone that poured their heart into this campaign and made their voices heard at the ballot box. This win is about all of us. The work will not stop here - The fight for a fairer and safer criminal justice system continues.
Rep.
@AyannaPressley
’s unapologetic leadership in office has been inspiring. She has not wavered once while fighting for criminal justice, defending marginalized communities and protecting reproductive rights. We are stronger with support like hers by our side.
WATCH LIVE - This win is about all of us. I’ve spent the last four years working to reform a system that is not representative of the communities it serves - I’m ready to continue this work.
Low-level, nonviolent cannabis offenders are not a danger to our community and expunging these records will help reinvest in Cook County. I’m running for re-election because I want to fight on behalf of our communities, not against them.
As a presidential candidate, Sen.
@KamalaHarris
lifted up the voices of millions. I’m proud to call her a friend - It’s a privilege to have her in my corner.
Growing up in Cabrini-Green, I know the pain that people in disinvested communities feel. I have lived it. In order to heal from this moment, we need to do more than seek justice. We need to invest in the success of the residents that live in our most deprived neighborhoods.
We will not go back. I’m determined to help Illinois remain a safe haven for all people seeking reproductive freedom. Today’s decision will not stop abortions from happening, it will motivate us to keep fighting.
The audacity that the city calculated its embarrassment over the release of the video, is a clear violation of Ms. Young’s body and autonomy. This was a complete and utter dismissal of her humanity. Her humanity was, literally, stripped from her.
As State Attorney in Cook County, Illinois,
@KimFoxxforSA
has been a visionary for a more fair and just criminal justice system.
She's running for reelection to ensure all people are treated equally under the law, and I'm proud to stand with her in that fight.
Thank you,
@KamalaHarris
. "In a world that is built on counting Black women out, Kamala has worked tirelessly to bring more of us in and build us up."
As a fellow Chicagoan,
@common
understands the unique challenges our communities face. We fought to build a criminal justice system that is a model for fairness and equity, and while we have made progress, there is still work to do. Thank you for your commitment to our vision.
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson may be first Black woman to be nominated as a Supreme Court Justice, but she will not be the last. It was a privilege to meet her proud parents, and to offer my support alongside officials across our state and country.
I was both humbled and honored to have
@JohnLegend
as the special guest at my holiday fundraiser today. Not only is he an incredibly talented artist (and EGOT winner), but he also is an amazing champion for criminal justice reform with his work at

I am devastated to learn of the passing of Rep. John Lewis. There are no words to describe how deeply his heroism and wisdom have inspired us. His legacy will continue to live on through future generations, as they fight for what's right.
This morning, I was proud to be sworn in as Cook County State’s Attorney for the second time. I will continue to be a State’s Attorney for everyone. Regardless of politics, race, zip code, or income, my priority remains the safety and welfare of all of Cook County’s families.
I am thrilled to see
@KamalaHarris
make history as our VP nominee! Her leadership and guidance have been a source of inspiration. It’s been an honor to have her in my corner for the last 4 years, and I’m so excited to see her continue to shape the nation

.
There will be those that try to exploit the anger and mourning. Who would use this as an opportunity to sow that discontent, to distract from what the real issues, and use criminality to poison the conversations around what we ought to be talking about.
I was deeply moved by Rep.
@AOC
's speech on the House floor yesterday. The disgusting words that were hurled at her are all too familiar to women across the country. Proud to see her stand up to the deeply ingrained misogyny in our society.
Rep
@AOC
: "I do not need Rep. Yoho to apologize to me. Clearly he does not want to. Clearly when given the opportunity he will not & I will not stay up late at night waiting for an apology from a man who has no remorse over calling women & using abusive language towards women."
If the system has always worked for you, and you believed it to be fair, you will try to find justification for why something has deviated from that. We must burst this bubble and expose the realities of the unfair systems in our country.
This is dangerous and reckless because it undermines our confidence in law enforcement. John Catanzara has demonstrated this hateful and racist character for years. This is no surprise and is indicative of how he operates.
I'm glad to see
@Airbnb
partner with the City of Chicago to help bring support and relief to domestic violence survivors. For many survivors, staying home does not guarantee safety - It's critical that they have access to these resources.
Today was a historic day for Cook County. Over 1,000 people were given the opportunity to start over, free of a criminal record holding them back. Clearing these convictions is about setting the record straight and righting the wrongs of the failed war on drugs.
@BernieSanders
Being a progressive prosecutor requires boldness, innovation and a sense of urgency to help our communities. Having the support of Senator
@BernieSanders
shows that we have the right vision to keep moving forward. Our work isn't done yet.
@BernieSanders
Since 2016, we've implemented bond and cannabis reform. We are leading the country in vacating wrongful convictions and funneling more resources toward violent crimes to keep communities safe.
We would be inclined to think it is just the murder of George Floyd that has our streets filled. What I remember feeling in that moment was the casualness of all of the things we have experienced in this country.
Having Sen.
@ewarren
's endorsement is a testament to the work we’ve only just started here in Cook County. With her on
#TeamFoxx
, we’re bringing big, structural change to Cook County!
We watched in disgust and horror as mobs stormed the US Capitol and raised flags of hatred on live TV. But, the truth is - for those of us who have watched these groups be emboldened by white supremacy at the highest levels over the last few years - sadly, it was not surprising.
Four years ago, I was honored receive the endorsement of
@JohnLegend
. The EGOT winner, humanitarian and activist has been a longstanding advocate for criminal justice reform. He has seen what we have accomplished, and he knows that we have only just begun.
This is a historic day for Illinois.
#HB3653
is what real criminal justice reform looks like. I'm proud to help support this bill, and I am in awe of the hard work of the advocates, activists, and legislators that made this possible.
I am honored to have Sen.
@amyklobuchar
's endorsement! She has worked across party lines to pass landmark pieces of legislation to end human trafficking and to combat the opioid epidemic. She is the kind of fighter we need in Washington and I am proud to have her support.
Yesterday, Illinois started a new chapter as the sale and use of cannabis was legalized. I’m overwhelmingly proud to support the team that’s working to right the wrongs of the War on Drugs and reinvest in the communities harmed by it.
Building community trust requires transparency and accountability. When prosecutors take money from law enforcement unions, it can blur those lines and call our decision-making into question. That's why I decided to refuse all donations from police unions.
“As Cook County State’s Attorney, it pains me deeply to say that, in this particular case, our justice system failed. Chicagoans deserve to know how and why it can, and likely will, happen again across the country.”
I'm fighting for the safety of our families regardless of where they come from. As State's Attorney I will continue the fight and always put our communities first.
“We are going to become Detroit if we don’t fight Kim Foxx.”
We can't ignore the racist dog whistles that my opponent uses to describe our communities. I'm focused on improving public safety and fighting for justice, not demonizing Cook County residents.
I am happy to inform Donald Trump that I grew up in some of the “low income housing” he’s referring to, and I will be gladly voting against him and his racist policies this November.
I am happy to inform all of the people living their Suburban Lifestyle Dream that you will no longer be bothered or financially hurt by having low income housing built in your neighborhood...
This disturbing video explicitly illustrates who the victim is, who deserves justice, and who holds the power. Let’s be clear, this is her body and this is her trauma. To imagine what Ms. Young experienced at the hands of those who were supposed to protect her is shameful.
I'm glad to see prosecutors like
@GeorgeGascon
elected as part of a wave of progressive prosecutors taking office across the country. We must continue to fight for criminal justice reform and respond to our communities' calls for action.
This is what’s wrong with our criminal justice system, this is why there is a lack of trust. I hope that Ms. Young is somehow able to move beyond this with the dignity that she was deprived.
Breonna Taylor should be celebrating her 27th birthday today. Instead, her loved ones have waited months for answers as to why her life was taken. As we fight for justice and accountability, we cannot forget to
#SayHerName
Enough is enough. As prosecutors, we are often subject to criticism and scrutiny - as Black female prosecutors, we are subject to misogynistic attacks and racist intimidation tactics. I stand with my colleagues across the country that are fighting back.
Incarceration rates and violent crimes have gone down in Cook County over the last three years and it is no secret why - The safety of our communities lies in criminal justice reform and progressive prosecution.
We are doing ourselves a disservice if we limit the meaning of these protests to a just hashtag - this is a movement. This is an outcry for change and justice in a racist system that has denied access for generations. We can’t lose focus of the bigger picture.
The voicemail left to
@MarilynMosbyEsq
is cowardly, disgusting, and, unfortunately, not surprising as a Black female prosecutor. I will continue to speak out and support my fellow prosecutors across the country against these racist attacks.
I am not surprised that the
@FOP7Chicago
, who have encouraged and marched alongside white supremacists, would support my opponent in this race. I remain focused on protecting the health and safety of Cook County residents, not catering to the interests of this organization.
Thank you, Sen.
@BernieSanders
. People are ready for a change and Cook County is working to be a model of reform in the criminal justice system. We must confront the realities of the failed war on drugs and move our communities forward.
We are not only going to legalize marijuana; we are going to expunge past convictions for marijuana possession. Thank you to
@KimFoxxforSA
for leading the way on this important issue.
There is a blindspot in politics. I’ve seen how the system can ignore the voices of Black communities, and I’ve experienced it firsthand. We must take steps to address it. That’s why my team has decided to create a Pledge to Fight for Racial Justice.
“Cash bail was never about public safety...For far too many people, their assessment was based not on their risk but on their amount that they could afford to pay … so eliminating cash bail makes this about risk and not about poverty."
I'm thrilled to receive the endorsement of the
@Suntimes
Editorial Board, just as I did four years ago. Criminal justice reform and public safety can, and must, go hand in hand to move our communities forward and build a better Cook County.
Thank you for your endorsement,
@johnlegend
! Four years ago, you saw our vision for a fairer Cook County and offered your support - We have made major strides in our communities, but there’s still work to be done. I’m glad to have you on
#TeamFoxx
once again.
I'm proud to endorse
@KimFoxxforSA
for Cook County State's Attorney, just as I did 4 years ago. Foxx is living up to her word on transforming a deeply racist criminal justice system, and we need her work to continue. Join me and
@votingwhileblk
here:
I'm honored to be a part of this group of Black women leading the way. Thank you to
@CollectivePAC
and our moderators
@StefBrownJames
and
@ReginaKing
for hosting this important conversation.
It should not take the constant killing of Black men and women to reckon with the systemic nature of what is wrong with our country. We can't afford to keep looking away and ignoring the trauma that plagues our communities.
Today's the big day! We need you to get out to vote and make your voice heard. We have made amazing progress over the last four years, and we can't stop now. Confirm your polling locations and times, and cast your ballot today.
We're one day away, and I'm thrilled to receive so much support as we push across the finish line. Make sure you have a plan to vote today or tomorrow. Your voice must be heard this election day.
Representation matters. When Black women are on the national stage, it creates room and allows us to tell our stories, amplify our voices, and validate our struggles. It provides hope in a new way.
The last few weeks have served as painful reminders of the systemic racism that Black people have been subject to for generations. This racism is not new, just more visible than ever before.
This is what public safety looks like. I applaud the hard work of the General Assembly, and I'm glad to see Governor Pritzker immediately sign this bill into law. Our communities do not deserve to live in fear. This will save lives.
One year ago today, I reaffirmed my commitment to building a safer and fairer Cook County criminal justice system for us all.
You showed up and showed out at the polls, and I can't thank you enough.
By clearing these convictions, we are setting the record straight. Low-level, non-violent cannabis offenders are not a danger to our community. Expunging these records means that we are pursuing equity and reinvesting in Cook County.
Real criminal justice reform starts with trust. The support of community members & leaders across Illinois shows a trust that our reform measures are working. It represents a belief that our system is changing for the better. We have made so much progress, and we can't stop now.
The President’s remarks were disgusting, disturbing, and an exercise in denial.
The American people get to pick their president - Donald Trump doesn’t get to pick and choose the people whose votes get counted.
I had the privilege of meeting Michael K. Williams twice. He was generous with his time as we talked about pain, trauma, redemption and love. His mission was to make sure that those who bore their scares were seen, lifted, and appreciated.
As appalling as it was to see the events of Wednesday unfold, it was not surprising for many of us. We've seen these types of mobs, fueled by white supremacy, before, even in Cook County.
Misinformation creates terror. While we focus on violent crime and advancing justice, others focus on prejudice, racism, and misogyny. There is a disturbing trend of threatening the safety women in power; no one should receive death threats simply for doing their job.
"Sleep with one eye open, we're coming to get you. America's tired of this shit... all-out war. Bunch of you fucks are gonna die."
Florida man Paul Vernon Hoeffer has pleaded guilty to threatening Nancy Pelosi, Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx, and AOC.
It should come as no surprise that a girl growing up in Cabrini Green can go on to lead the second-largest prosecutor's office in the country, but every day, I meet people who disagree. Your zip code should never be a cap on your potential.
I'm proud to have U.S. Senator
@DickDurbin
's support just as I did four years ago. His commitment to protecting Illinois' families has inspired me in my time in office. Excited to have him on
#TeamFoxx
once again.
In 1988, Calvin Ollins, Larry Ollins, Marcellius Bradford, and Omar Muhammad were wrongfully convicted of a horrific crime they did not commit. They spent nearly 14 years of their lives in prison until DNA evidence confirmed their innocence. Pat O’Brien oversaw the case.
Twelve people were given a second chance after having their wrongful convictions vacated yesterday. I’m incredibly proud of the hard work of the Conviction Integrity Unit, which has fought to restore fairness and trust to the criminal justice system.
Thank you,
@teenvogue
, for shining a light on Black women prosecutors' work across the country, our journey to get to these positions, and the struggles that often go unnoticed in the background.
#BlackHistoryMonth
I’m excited to have fellow progressive prosecutor,
@Krasner4DA
on
#TeamFoxx
. District Attorney Krasner and I share the same passion for championing reforms that restores fairness and adds equity to our criminal justice system.
My mother told me that because I was a black girl, my life was going to be difficult. She said the choice was mine in how I tackle it – and I chose to fight for our communities.
