This article is a good reminder of why the research I'm doing matters! For the past year, my grad students and I have been interviewing adolescents and analyzing their TikTok user data to understand how content on the app impacts their mental health and suicidal thoughts. It's.
After her son's suicide, Jennie DeSerio turned to his phone for answers. Scrolling through his TikTok, she found at least 15 videos he had liked that directly promoted suicide. Some are still up on the platform over a year later.
