I’ve always wanted to do a Friday news dump, so here goes: Next week will be my last at Crain’s Cleveland. Leaving journalism is one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made, but the timing, and opportunity, felt right. I’ll miss my colleagues a ton.

Darius Garland being part salary dump, part traded for a 36-year-old ball stopper known for playoff disappointments is just … sad. Damn.

I was surprised at how much I missed not watching Mahomes in the playoffs. But now we have Caleb, who throws a 50-yard fadeaway in freezing cold with half the defense in his face.

Stroud has been brutal, but throwing 26 times, and calling three passes on that last drive of the half, is idiotic.

Cheap MLB owners when they realize that with a salary cap comes expectations to spend at least a certain amount.
Passan: Unless deal in place MLB is going to lock out in 2027. Owners want a salary cap. They look at all the other sports. They say why do they have it and we don’t? Salary cap would bring some semblance of competitive balance to the game. Players don’t want to limit earning

The NFL and others made such a big deal about virtual measurements being introduced, but it’s still a virtual measurement of where an official (incorrectly) estimates that the ball is down.

So I guess the lesson here is the Big Ten had the three best teams in the country: Indiana, Ohio State and Penn State.

"The Guardians have needs. They also have a payroll that, even by their standards, should be considered embarrassingly low." Shawn Armstrong, a 35-year-old journeyman reliever, and Austin Hedges are tied for the fourth-highest salaries on the team. Great read by @ZackMeisel.

Fret not, the Guards are simply waiting for Tucker’s asking price to drop to $25 million a year.

As this was happening, the esteemed FanDuel Sports Network had a TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES graphic and it sounded like John Michael was announcing the game with a tin can and a string — complete with background noise!

Firing Stefanski and keeping Berry makes zero sense. Congrats on maybe, finally having one good draft.
