Off back to Sweden; still no ferries or night trains, though lots of cheap flights. Just another indicator of how the rhetoric of Paris is light years from meaningful action. Any chance of 2°C will soon go the way of 1.5°C if even the EU can’t demonstrate low CO2 infrastructure.

@KevinClimate I think you can take the bus via @eurolines . Did this back in 2011. It does take a hideously long time, but you can get through a few books en route.

@tom_r_allen @Eurolines Even by train it takes me two days - tho’ its very productive from a work perspective; less good for work-life balance!

@KevinClimate Don't hold your breath waiting for meaningful action on climate change. The only thing that's coming for sure is 2 degrees Celsius probably between 2026 and 2030. It's clear that humanity will not make any sacrifices to have a future.

@JayHoran5 If it’s so certain there’s not really any point engaging. I think you’re likely to be correct in regards to failing - but for 2°C it still remains a choice - tho’ not for long! It’s incumbent on those of us concerned about 2°C+ to vociferously identify alternatives.

@lind_ake @daniel_bensson No, I just look forward to reading your carefully constructed & peer-reviewed paper as part of the dynamic process of science. Till then the tone of your tweets tells me much of what I need to know about the diligence underpinning your views.

@KevinClimate Apparently you can get a cargo ship of some sort from Norway to UK

@katedooley0 There used to be a container ship from Immingham to Gothenburg, etc. It took 12 passengers, but sadly no longer unless travelling with commercial freight. I had previously used it, though scheduling with nearby public transport was challenging! Not sure of other ship routes?

@KevinClimate No one in Scandinavia will go by train rides longer than 4 hours, whether on business trips or vacation. It's like expecting people to go back to vinyl records.

@Loukas_RS Interesting to compare the pace of development the Swedish governmt will propose for its trains against what it enthusiastically facilitates for its aviation. Imagine the progress if all the effort & finance was earmarked for trains & virtual communication & not hi-CO2 lock-in.

@KevinClimate That would involve climate-mitigation oriented public investment which goes against 30 years of “market-based” delay tactics like emissions trading. The EU climate bureaucracy thinks of itself as a mere facilitator of the market/private sector.

@Slushmuppypup2 When in a hole I suggest the first, second, third ... & twentieth option is to stop digging. Whilst doing this we may carefully consider backfilling with exotic chemicals etc - but let’s put the spades down first & learn lessons from a history of misunderstanding ecosystems.

@KevinClimate The tragedy is that we had those night trains, 30 years ago. In stead of upgrading to a high speed network, we broke down what we had, by 'unleashing' market forces.

@KevinClimate Recently travelled Trondheim (Norway) - Freiburg (Germany) by train. Takes two night trains (luckily they go) plus a full day stop in Denmark. Journey could be 24h faster if trains were better aligned and punctual!
