Combines going hard at it in the peas. Coming off at 15.5%, ideal for avoiding soakability issues - minimising cooking time and gas consumption. Such an important factor in our local market.

Removed the wings from one side of the discs to help them turn a bit more freely, and the conditions have definitely just tipped in favour with the dry surface. A slight compromise in starter fert placement perhaps, but I don't mind so much in canola in light of some of the

Sugarbeet are getting their second wind with some good August rain. With no winter to define the length of the growing season, one wonders what the yield potential could be. Only 43,800ksh/ha spent on variable costs so far!?!

After a very dry season, Blazer and Trophy l & r have both resisted shattering well after recent heavy rain. Double cropped canola runs substantially quicker in our data, making it even more likely to be at risk during the Lake Rains in August.

Lupins in a covercrop feeling the heat from just 30g/ha of clopyralid applied four months ago! .Thank goodness it is only a cover, but it reminds us how focused we have to be with herbicide residuals when double cropping.

Maize planted with the Horizon DSX single disc. We're not expecting precision but it has done a good job putting it in at a uniform depth. Better on the Black Cotton zones than a double disc I would say. And some extra N placed on the inter-row so that the crop accesses it more

These guys are going to have to work hard if it stays dry and windy through September and early October. They have gone into great conditions, no herbicide residue issues (pot tested in the off-season!), so I have every faith in the fresh peat based inoculant!

The great thing about spending your Sundays doing sunflower herbicide trials is that they yield results very quickly. Big savings here and a step up in Bidens pilosa control, but the more profound effects are A) no imi carryover clipping the following crops, & B) CL varieties

Planet (left in both pics) looking seriously up for the challenge from the younger upstarts. But below the canopy all is not well. Bad Net Blotch and Barley Leaf Stripe compared to Neptune, right.

A first class job from the Tempo planting these sunflowers. Fingers crossed these do not seem to be anything like as sensitive to the allelopathic effects of Bracharia brizantha as canola or cereals.

2nd crop, 2nd big leaf forward on this Oxisol. Blazer TT filling the seeds nicely, and I am just a little bit smug about the Datura control 😁

Good sunlight hours, relatively cool temperatures, lessons from the fungicide trials applied, head counts & grains/ear recorded in the new Appsheet. New stage 4 varieties being introduced to on farm trials. We've come a long way.

Grabbed a few more grain nutrient samples today. I'm really intrigued to see what effect variable rate fert at planting has had on bulk grain sample phosphorus content, if at all.

No yield records to be broken here in this Stage 2 trial, but we should have a really good spread of data from >600mm, 450mm and this site <200mm in crop rain. Looking at the stability across these three locations will be really important.
