Southern rust confirmed today on corn in Crittenden County, KY. Depending on growth stage, corn may need a fungicide application. Check the @CropNetwork map to track disease and determine if an application is needed! @UKAgriculture @UKExtension

Some of the larger corn had greensnap. 50+ mph wind and 1.2 inches in 15 minutes. Patterns suggest rain was the bigger culprit. 📸 Emily Marsh

Late-planted corn knocked down by rain. Within 15 minutes, the station had 30 to 50+ mph gusts and about 1.2 inches of rain. We expect it to be upright soon. ⁦@UKAGweather⁩ ⁦@kymesonet

Our earliest-maturing corn planted Apr 18, 2025 at Lexington is pollinating. First tassels observed last Thurs/Fri. We’ll see how it handles multiple days above 90.

Corn has jumped about 18 inches since last Monday. It is about to enter maximum water demand. Not long until tassels and silks.

Corn entered rapid or exponential growth at Lexington this week. The heat today and this weekend will make it jump even more. ⁦@UKAgriculture

Long roots in a great soil structure. V9 corn. This 2-ft long root slid right out of the soil when digging. No-till, cover crop, crop rotation.
