Hey! I've created thousands upon thousands of
#gameassets
which are completely free to use in any project by anyone!

Can we appreciate for a minute that at some point great people came together and created top tier free software that in the past would cost you thousands of dollars?
I've been creating a tool but now contemplating of even releasing due to limitations. You draw a 2D sprite, set the depth of each 'pixel' and presto a 3D model! Since you're working on 1 axis you can probably guess the limitations. Would love to hear your ideas?

Unity will soon charge devs per-install after a certain threshold. I'd like to express my concerns regarding privacy (tracking installs/downloads), preservation and changing the whole business model while devs are using the engine for their projects. 🫤
Working on (still) untitled software for turning 2D pixel art into 3D models quickly. Mesh optimization is almost complete, want to look into MagicaVoxel (.vox) export support plus 5 common 3D file formats.

LETSSS GOOOO; Kenney Game Assets All-in-1 is FREE today, instead of the usual $19.95. Get all my game assets in a single bundle, great for learning new engines 👀

I just received word that I'm banned from attending certain
#gamedev
events after having called out Global Game Jam's AI sponsor, I'm not considered "part of the Global Game Jam community" thus my opinion does not matter. Woopsie.
Unity previously removed the repository of their terms of service because it didn't get enough views. Please all keep viewing their terms of service or they might remove it again. 👀
Are you tired of gamers hating on your game because of the engine you chose? Just make a splash screen that shows a fake engine logo and they'll think it's custom made - guaranteed.

Only when you have to painstakingly draw each of them do you realize how many gamepads there are. This is just like a tiny selection of some recent ones 😐
Anyway they'll be public domain, CC0 so you can use them in your games, wiki pages, tutorials, books etc.
The
@godotengine
Splash Screen repository has been updated based on your feedback! Now neatly organized in folders, 7 new screens (including horror themed) and 18 vector logos.
Input Prompts are now available! Contains 800+ glyphs for common input types, including overlays and generic controls. Includes PNG (64×, 128×) and SVG, plus an overview of all glyphs!
Completely free, public domain:

Someone cloned KenShape, open sourced it and is now implementing NFT minting.
Absolutely gut-wrenching. I give away so much for free and the only thing that generates a bit of income gets taken. I'm... I just want to give up.
How the arcade-like car controller was made; big sphere rolling around, car model just copies position. Raycast down to find ground normal for car. Sphere gets force based on car model direction. Tilt/wheel turning/etc. all lerps.

Day 1 of
@godotengine
: I've made a platformer with camera controls, bit of juice, gamepad support and some new
#gameassets
to go with it!
Planning to release this as open source, including the models.
I've heard you all need some yellow paint, so here's the Yellow Paint Pack! Includes PNG and vector files, suitable for any use and perfect for telling players where to go 👀

It's a bit early but still wanted to show Starter Kit City Builder for
@godotengine
! The code is super simple, it works using Godot's GridMap component (basically tilemap for 3D objects).
Will be free, open source and will come with new game assets!
Day 2 of
@godotengine
: Added particle effects, sounds, coins, HUD and improved some models. I'm almost done with this, ready to be shared as an open source CC0 template for anyone to use and improve upon!
Godot verdict: I'm in love.
I spent a decade of my life creating game assets, the result is a lot of game assets. They're free, no ads, no tracking, no registration, no subscription, no permission needed, no need for attribution and suited for any use including commercial.
I've decided to become a "Bronze sponsor" for
@godotengine
to aid development financially. I'll also be making sure my game assets remain compatible with the engine as they are now. While it is a small gesture, I know it'll go a long way!
Review: Kenney cares about the environment and instead of jumping on every tech-fad to make a quick buck actually stands for open art that can be shared, and is not owned by a single entity but rather public property. ★★★★★
Unfortunately going through a break-up which means I might miss release dates as I take care of myself. Doing lots of hiking to clear the mind (people that follow me on Insta know!) and generally doing stuff I like doing to go through this. 💔
Thanks for understanding :)
Working on (vector) input prompts, yes, finally! Got so many requests for these and finally ready to tackle 'em.
Once done they'll be public domain, available for free for any sort of project. Looking for

A thread on how to recognize and avoid AI
#gameassets
! Using these game assets is not allowed when releasing a game on Steam, but might also lead to other legal issues as it's hard to determine who owns the rights. How to recognize them; 🧵
For me it's getting harder to get excited by most AAA releases. It's all zombies, shootin', space horror, open world and multiplayer - this "E3" made me realize once again; indies are the innovators, they're the ones pushing forward gaming and making truly exciting things.
People often ask me about my GTA-but-cute game and yes, still working on that. Mostly experimenting with gameplay features. Recently added interiors, buying property and now testing possible 2D characters. Let me know what you think!
Welcome back old friend. Anyway, this was already planned since I want to make 'starter kit' templates for multiple engines which includes Godot. Basically little templates to easily get started with an FPS, platformer, etc. featuring my game assets.
More on this soon!
So the art and assets by
@PixElthen
got minted and sold without his consent and against his license, he tried to take it offline but now he's actually getting harassed by NFT folk whining about their money... anyone who can help him with this?
Can I also just briefly say that I once asked
@UnrealEngine
to host my game assets on their marketplace and they were like 'we got u fam' and made an entirely custom page promoting my game assets??
I was looking for some pixel art tutorials to share with my interns and found out that Adobe actually says you can use Illustrator and just draw little rectangles... I'm ded.
I'm a terrible businessman because whenever schools would contact me asking if they can install Asset Forge on multiple computers in their classrooms I said "go ahead!". Education is more important than my income, I think.
With Unity's per-install fee that would bankrupt me.
Need a crosshair for your shooter, flight simulator or any other game? Look no further! Includes each crosshair in 3 styles, plus vector source files.
CC0 licensed (no restrictions, no limitations)
Using pre-made game assets is not a sign of being lazy, or not caring enough about your game. It's deciding what's important to spend time on, and what has already been done for you.
(Video source: Richter Overtime)
Starter Kit FPS for
@godotengine
is also nearing completion! Weapons are custom resources, you can easily set the model, crosshair, amount of shots, cooldown, spread, damage and sound!
I'm excited to announce a new feature on my website; before downloading new game assets you first have to submit proof that your current game is completely finished. You're welcome!
I animated a few of the Armor Games intro animations which are probably etched in your mind if you played Flash games back in the day. I don't remember which exactly, but this one for sure. If you ever need an animation of two swords and a shield - hit me up.

While gamers are once again giving their opinions on game engines I'd like to remind you that you can confuse them all by just adding a random splash screen to your game.
Are you tired of gamers hating on your game because of the engine you chose? Just make a splash screen that shows a fake engine logo and they'll think it's custom made - guaranteed.

Update on the free public domain input prompts; Switch is almost done, made sure to include some variations and cover the D-PAD for the Switch Lite. Not completely final though, but largely!
@Xbox
is next.
EU is stepping up again; the AI Act will force developers of AI models to provide a detailed summary of all text, images, videos and other data used to train their systems and comply with EU copyright law. 🇪🇺
We're all frustrated, this isn't the way. Shame on you for threatening people, people that have no say in this decision and are probably as furious as you are.
Oh I missed this but Unity Plus is also being retired, meaning you'll have to choose the free tier and show the Unity splash screen or the much more expensive Unity Pro tier (costs $1,641 a year more than the retired Unity Plus tier).
I'm extremely pleased to share that I've received an
@EpicGames
MegaGrant! The grant will be used for two game asset projects of which the first will be announced soon. 🤗🎉
Working on a game where you create cozy interior dioramas ✨ It's a bit early so not a lot of features yet but hoping to include many customization options plus easy render/video creation for sharing!
Will release on Steam & , untitled as of yet

When I started sharing free game assets back in 2010 a ton of people said "You can't possibly keep releasing everything for free, it's impossible!", 11 years later thanks to your support I can continue to release free content and yet pay my bills. Thank you! 🤍
Needing a headshot? Head to the

According to Apple unspeakable things happen at . Like developers uploading any game they create, getting a fair share of revenue, consumers getting DRM-free content and even having an optional launcher...
That must be truly a ghastly sight for Apple. 👻
Working on "Input Mixer"! Using this online tool you can create your own set of input assets. Use effects (like shape, detail, shadow, outline, color, grunge) to generate over 800 unique icons in a single click — all for free! 【very early, WIP】

I left the Unity Insider program and unfortunately won't be attending Unite in Amsterdam. It's time for me to move on, thanks everyone and
@kalobrien
in particular for giving me this opportunity.
(My
#gameassets
will still work in Unity, FYI)
Still working on those public domain (CC0) input prompts, tackling Steam Deck and PlayStation. Please note; nothing is final yet. There's a lot of icons, but I also want to make sure they're as good as can be 🎮
Starter Kit FPS for
@godotengine
is now available! Dive into the source code (MIT licensed) or just grab the models/sounds (CC0 licensed) for your own projects ✨

If John Riccitiello (Unity CEO, former EA) thinks you're a "fucking idiot", congrats; you're doing good! 🧑🚀 I'm glad we have people like you and you're the future, you create honest and genuine products and do it for the love of the craft. Keep going!
Oh and Unity's new "verified solution" which has been "thoroughly reviewed" actually downloads 3D models stolen from other games because obviously the database is full of copyrighted and stolen material. Enjoy folks!
Only a couple of hours later and I've got the basics done, barely 60 lines of code using just a CharacterBody3D. Will need some more work but this will be a very good starting point for arcade-like racing games!

I recommended Affinity in the past as a good and affordable alternative to Adobe software. Sorry about that, I should've known better. I'll stick to recommending FOSS instead, when available.
