As gem and mineral curator I’ve learned much about getting specimens on display in geology departments. If you want advice on purchasing and ideas let me know. I’d love to use what I’ve fought to learn help other departments level up. Email me at https://t.co/4wcHGXfiV1

Columnar basalts are a personal favorite. But collecting the perfect specimen remains elusive.

congrats to JT for publishing on his drone infrared system, and the incredible career he has built. James built a mini TIR system that can be built cheap, the designs are free. Accessible to scientists in first world and developing nations! https://t.co/w1RzmM291n

🌾 @txgeosciences Alum Jake Jordan (Ph.D. ’17) led his team @mati_carbon to a $50M @XPRIZE win by using volcanic rock dust to pull CO₂ from the air and boost crop yields. Their solution is transforming farming and giving the world a breath of fresh air: https://t.co/SkxmWxdNVz.

Finished off the show with general specimens for the department, slabs of petrified trunks, ammonites, and labradorite. 2 new Target suitcases later weighed in at 101.5 lbs at check in… just light enough to fly home. I recommend geos try the show.

Tucson 2025 thread. A great place for geologists to visit. My haul from Day 1. Check out the gradation from granite to graphic granite to amazonite peg. Other specimens are Norway zircons and Mexican Laguna agates.

It can’t be that good or you’d be breaking your embargoes.
