This is my ninth. One of the fun things I do every year is to judge essays in the Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition. The Appreciation Certificate is a nice gesture of thanks.

I picked up this Nicholas Hornyansky etching yesterday. One can never have too much art in the house. It is of Halifax's Old Clock. It is a posthumous printing by Harold Patton and was created for sale at a major retrospective at the Tom Thomson Gallery in Owen Sound.

I like stickpins. You can collect different kinds of stones inexpensively.

This afternoon and evening I have been judging another allocation of essays for the Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition. This time I am judging submissions in the junior category, those who are 14 years or younger. Lots of 14 year olds, but I had one five year old!

I was at an antique mall today and I found this delightful Iona Silver St. Martins sterling cross designed originally by Alexander Richie.

Canadian artist Hortense Gordon (1886-1961) was a force to be reckoned with. She did it all from china painting in her early career, to traditional landscapes, to wild abstracts at the end of her life. We own a painting. We saw her china today at the AGH.

A year or so ago on Fake or Fortune a Helen McNicoll (1879-1915, Canadian) painting called the Bean Harvest was discovered. We saw it today at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. It is now owned by Pierre Lassonde, Canadian art collector.

I can now share with you some good news and some very humbling news. In early March, at a reception in Toronto, I will be receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario
