I haven't tweeted much anyway in the last few years but I'm officially moving to BlueSky for moral reasons. Find my new account here: https://t.co/VURjWjV1kR And first post on our new preprint here! https://t.co/qwzAixCo6l

I'm leaving @ESI_Frankfurt. I’ll miss the huge group of kind smart hardworking 95% who make it so promising. But relieved to leave the handful of people whose behavior does not meet minimal standards of morality. In admin & senior science, a few truly *appalling* people. 🧵 soon.

Our findings highlight neural oscillations as useful to process signals with regular temporal stats (speech & music, or other neural signals). The "magic" of a phase response curve can mimic Bayesian computation over time well with very little memory and only a few parameters.

The two perceptual mechanisms can also be unified in the Bayesian sense, amounting to a change in the confidence of the prior relative to the sensory estimate. (Figure S4B)

Our analysis allowed us to theorize a unification of absolute and relative timing perception within the same model framework. It manifests as a bifurcation which changes the phase response curve of an oscillator as the coupling strength increases. (Fig. S2F)

The main points of the paper demonstrate how multiple levels of explanation can be combined to explain temporal perception in quasi-rhythmic stimuli, but I want to highlight two important findings that you'll only see if you dig into the supplemental information!

Very happy to share this labor of love that @FlorAssaneo @Luc_H_Arnal and I started during COVID. We combined some careful beh exp design with dynamical and Bayesian models to show how oscillators could be mapped to Bayesian perception in time.

Are relative and absolute timing truly two different mechanisms? Here, with @KeithD11 and @Luc_H_Arnal we show by bringing together behavioral data, oscillators and Bayesian predictions that they can be sides of the same coin. https://t.co/87XDsu76fK

1000 Black scientists in Neuro-related fields! When we started this community 3 years ago, ‘we can’t find any Black neuroscientists…’ was a phrase we were used to hearing. That excuse won’t fly anymore! 👁️👁️ #BINW23 #BlackInNeuro #NeuroInclusion

#BINW23 Hey everyone I'm Shahzad, a very soon-to-be Assistant Professor in the @UNC_CBP and @UNCneurology departments at @UNC. I'm interested in how the brain senses and responds to molecular cues, and how these processes are affected by aging and disease.
