Preferable options for yard debris or brush removal include composting, chipping or recycling. Check with your local disposal company for options. By not bringing a fire onto the landscape to remove debris, you are helping #preventwildfire. #WildfireAwarenessMonth

State law requires the proper clearing, building, attending and extinguishing of open fires all year. If your debris burn spreads out of control, you may have to pay suppression costs, and any damage to your neighbors’ properties. #PreventWildfire #WildfireAwarenessMonth

By taking a few extra steps when you burn debris, you can reduce the risk of it escaping. First and most importantly, call your local ODF office or fire district to see if it's a good burn day. Return to your burn site later to make sure no residual embers reignited. #WAM2025

ODF urges you to exercise caution when disposing of yard debris. Escaped debris burns are the top cause of human-caused fires in Oregon. There have been 31 escaped debris burns reported on ODF-protected land this year, nearly double compared to this time last year. #WAM2025
