However, this comes with a caveat. Learning a language later in life can be challenging. While our brains are most adept at picking up languages during childhood, adults can still reap the same benefits if not more.

5. Cognitive Reserves:. It is suggested that people develop a reserve of thinking ability that protects them against ageing and disease. Bilinguals on average suffer from dementia 4-5 years later. Bilinguals also recover from a stroke quickly.

4. Emotional intelligence:. Bilinguals are shockingly good at being empathetic and understanding the opposite POVs. This also improves the quality of relationships.
