You don't want your characters to go on off topic tangents, unless that's the point. The trick to Pulp Fictions seemingly aimless dialogue, is that it still says something about the characters

Similar to how dialogues are not real conversations either. You want them to FEEL real and believable, but if you wrote them down 1:1 like a real conversation, people would get bored

I had a loop that looked like the right once and they kept telling me to tone it down, until it looked like the left. Character ended up really small on the screen and looked like it wasn't moving at all
