What a great group of students (and staff) to work with!.
Was great to celebrate the end of year with our fantastic University of Adelaide Master of Biotechnology (Biomedical) Students last month! Pizza (lots), games and a beautiful afternoon. Congrats to Shreetha and Araniyah who were announced as joint prizewinners.

@apthompson11 So, what's the takeaway? π€ Remember, compounds can react and transform under your assay conditions. βοΈ You might be measuring the activity of a completely different molecule! (π§΅7/8).

@apthompson11 Surprisingly, the hydrolysed compound turned out to be a game-changer. With a few small tweaks, we created a potent nanomolar ligand!π¬(#MedChem #StructureBasedDrugDesign #DrugDiscovery (𧡠6/8)

@apthompson11 Detective hats went on! π΅οΈββοΈ After some sleuthing, we uncovered the unexpected: the original compound was hydrolysing in the crystal-soaking conditions! (Much credit here to the not-on-Twitter Birgit Gaiser for figuring out the chemistry!)π§π (π§΅5/8)

And here's where it gets REALLY interesting: one compound's electron density didn't match the molecule we put in! π€It was a crystal-soaking enigma. π§ͺ βοΈπ§©(Kudos to @apthompson11 for some fantastic #ProteinCrystallography work) (𧡠4/8)
