Really looking forward to hosting this discussion! . We'll grapple with how to have better conversations around kids & tech (conversations that don't heap pressure on parents) & how parents can be supported in a context where there's so much conflicting & emotive advice.

. but in order to avoid loosing sight of the everyday realities of families and the complexities of digital media. How do we know? We reviewed 297 publications spanning a wide range of disciplines and methods. Yes, that’s too many articles; I cried twice.

Why does this matter? There’s significant public interest in this issue & masses of advice given to parents but much of it is drawing on an evidence base that is at times, pretty shonky. We need more work that looks beyond entrenched paradigms, not for the sake of novelty. .

There’s a real need for new frameworks, questions, and approaches (and dealing with low hanging fruit around research quality).

There’s great work happening but the field is broadly characterised by inertia. ‘Screen time’ remains the dominant paradigm despite well established critiques, and there’s not nearly enough consideration of how families and childhoods differ.
