Awwwww, we were transfixed watching her on film-cartridge projectors in the 3rd Grade at PS75 (1970-71, I think). @KarenKornbluh remembers, I'm sure.

Existing international frameworks require all businesses to respect human rights and avoid causing or contributing to human-rights abuses. Why aren't AI companies being held to the same standard? ask @AlexReeveGivens and @KarenKornbluh.

What’s the argument against generous SALT deductions? High tax blue states are the economic powerhouses of this country. Why doesn’t it make sense to subsidize that model?

The AI chip race is Big Geopolitics. Tech, energy, human rights, economics, big business deals, national security, and diplomacy all at stake—with the Gulf and US tech firms poised to benefit. End🧵

The Trump strategy: use U.S. chip access as leverage to deepen alliances & expand global markets for American tech firms. The risk? Empowering unreliable partners and human rights violators in the race for AI dominance.

If these deals move forward, the Gulf could become a third AI power center—alongside the U.S. and China.

🇦🇪 In the UAE: A draft U.S. deal would allow 500,000 Nvidia AI chips/year to be exported—quadruple the amount allowed under the Biden rule. 100,000 would go to G42, a UAE firm under scrutiny. The rest support U.S. firms building Gulf data centers.

Despite reported internal U.S. concerns about security and human rights the Trump admin pulled back the diffusion rule. Now, it's debating letting countries negotiate directly with the U.S. over how many chips they can buy.

But that’s not what happened. Nvidia & Oracle warned the rule would help China by closing U.S. firms out of emerging markets. Meanwhile, OpenAI, Google, Meta, and xAI are looking abroad for investment to fuel their AI ambitions.

🧵What’s going on with AI chips, the Gulf, U.S. policy? So today was actually the day the Biden “diffusion rule” was to take effect— restricting advanced AI chip exports to all but the closest allies. The goal: keep key AI tech from China & Russia & limit it to others.
