Mass destruction is something they try to contain when they can and when they don't it's a big deal.
Snyder films are inconsistent on the killing issue and seem to treat mass violence as an acceptable.
I'm not an MCU fan but they did this well.

Like Superman getting mad about Batman killing despite also killing, while Snyder also says "actually Batman doesn't" despite us clearly seeing otherwise...it's a mess.

I’ve been rewatching comic movies recently, including Avengers and Man Of Steel, and boy the destruction in MoS is just egregious. It’s like Snyder wanted his own huge, Avengers style finale, but the only idea he had to match its length and scale was with an endless loop of 9/11s
