I mean, Scream doesn't really get enough credit for being a seriously political horror film. Wes Craven was tired of the misogyny in horror movies, so he makes a send up of the conservative values in the genre tropes.
Wes Craven directed a movie where the villains were Reagan-parody landlords, the hero is a black kid trying to pay for his mother's healthcare, and it ends with him redistributing their wealth. Seriously, that's the plot.
Don't tell me horror directors aren't political.

Writers don't get enough credit, but neither do all the parties involved in feature development. Every reader, every intern, everyone who made that such a perfectly tight screenplay deserves credit.
And a director does oversee subsequent drafts, even if they do not write them.
