A matriach has rested 🐘 We are saddened by the death of Dida who was possibly Africa’s largest female Tusker and a Matriarch residing in @KWSTsavoEast National Park. She died from natural causes due to old age having lived a full life to about 60-65 years old.

Yesterday, KWS Meru Vet team came to the aid of a 3-year-old lioness in Meru N. Park. She had a significant swelling on her lower jaw, which became apparent after a successful buffalo hunt. She displayed signs of discomfort while caring for her two roughly 3-month-old cubs.

Our vet team responded to a report of a zebra with a face growth at junction 10 - Nairobi NP. The pendunculated mass was found to be cancerous, a rare type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. The mass was removed by surgical excision & we expect a complete recovery.

Two lions in a pride of 17 were today injured by buffalos during a hunt in Ngutuni conservancy adjacent to Tsavo East. The KWS veterinary team immobilised and treated both lions by stitching. The prognosis is good.

BREAKING NEWS: 2 northern white rhino embryos have been created in an Italian laboratory using eggs collected from the 2 remaining females and frozen sperm from deceased males. The embryos are now stored in liquid nitrogen to be transferred into a surrogate mother.

For the first time in 21years, KWS reported ZERO poaching of Rhinos in the year 2020. Rhino poaching has reduced from a high of 59 cases in 2013 when poaching was at its peak to Zero poaching in 2020. The last time this feat was achieved was in 1999.  #WWD2021 #ZeroRhinoPoaching

Guess what? We’ve got some exhilarating news. An elephant named Bora from the Winds Family in Samburu National Reserve just gave birth to twins. An elephant giving birth to twins is an extremely rare occurrence with the most recent incidence being recorded in Amboseli in 2020
