At Jila-Jila, #MartuFamilies from the #KJWomensAndFamiliesProgram in #Punmu spent the day #OnCountry. The kids explored Country then played Martu Snakes + Ladders, created by the #KJLanguage Team, to learn animals from #MartuCountry in #MartuWangka. #KeepingCultureStrong

#DidYouKnow “lunki” is #MartuWangka (word) for #WitchettyGrubs? For thousands of years, #Martu have gathered lunki from the roots, trunks and branches of Acacia (‘witchetty bush’) and white gum. They aren’t just tasty #BushTucker for the Martu; bilbies love them too!

#KJMartuRangers headed out on-Country with a drone to check on monitored #Mankarr (#Bilby) burrows near #Punmu. The drone gives a bird’s-eye view before they head in to check cameras and signs on the ground. Combining tech with #MartuKnowledge helps keep mankarr strong.

On-Country with the #KJWomenAndFamiliesProgram, little Maleriah was shown how to make damper. While store-bought flour is used now instead of grinding seeds, the practice helps Martu carry food knowledge forward from pujiman times into today.
