Texas ceded all land North of 36° latitude so it would avoid the Missouri Compromise slavery ban of 1820. Texas wanted slaves so desperately it gave land to Oklahoma in 1850 to keep Black people in shackles. Tell me again how the Civil War was about states rights, not slavery.
