As part of @blastfilms ‘George Michael: Outed’ for @Channel4, here is my story of being outed by the media in 1986/1987. It ended my parliamentary career & made me an easy target for Carl Beech’s false claims, which initiated the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Midland.

Opportunities come in many forms. I welcome this investment. Chess changed the course of my life. I failed my 11-plus exam. I only gained entry to Scarborough High School for Boys because the headmaster, Mr Marsden, shared my love of chess & wanted to strengthen the school.

Very pleased to see the government continuing the £1million investment in chess that we launched when I was Prime Minister. Chess isn’t just a great game. It also builds the kind of skills young people need to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive world.

My interview on @TalkTV with @petercardwell on @TUIUK reviving old injustices by banning homosexual men convicted under historical gross indecency laws, including myself who was convicted in 1987 for gross indecency - a “crime” no longer on the statute books. Under Alan Turning

I have been advised by a data specialist, that there is a reasonable argument to be made that @TUIUK’s decision not to allow me to travel with them - through apparent inflexible application of a company policy - involves unfair processing of personal data in contravention of.

Just told by @TUIUK I’m banned from travel due to a 1987 conviction for gross indecency - a “crime” no longer on the statute books. Under Alan Turning Law I can apply to have it expunged. This is not safeguarding. It’s corporate discrimination against gay men. Outrageous. #LGBTQ+.

I understand, & support, the need to protect children & vulnerable passengers. But that duty of care must not be used to perpetuate the kind of institutional discrimination we, as a society, have spent decades trying to undo.

I’m astonished by how many people have seen this & simply don’t care. Does principle no longer matter? Or are some injustices still acceptable - so long as they happen to the “right” people?.

Excellent article by @JournoStephen for @spectator. 20 years since 7/7, & leaders still refuse to name the ideology behind it: Islamism. To say so is not to smear British Muslims, the overwhelming majority of whom want peace, safety and freedom. But it is to acknowledge the.

13 committed suicide because of the Post Office scandal. Many more came close. The Horizon system was flawed & they knew it, & still they prosecuted. Successive governments share the blame. Sir @Keir_Starmer must order proper redress now. Justice delayed is justice denied.

I, like many, will never forget the haunting images of Norman Tebbit being stretchered from the rubble of the Grand Hotel in Brighton, after the IRA bombing that killed five & injured many more. Norman & his wife, Margaret, had been lying in bed when the ceiling collapsed.

Saddened to hear that Norman Tebbit has died. A formidable, loyal & honest parliamentarian, & one of Margaret Thatcher’s staunchest allies. A political age is fast disappearing. He was a devoted husband to Margaret who was paralysed during the IRA bombing attack on the Grand

Today marks 20 years since the 7/7 attacks which killed 52 people & injured over 770 others in London. We remember the victims & honour the extraordinary courage of the emergency services & all who helped. My thoughts are with everyone affected by that cowardly act of terror.
