Today an employee sent a tweet from @SCKansasKDOT . The tweet has been deleted as it does not reflect the views of KDOT or the Administration and was an unacceptable use of state communication tools. The person who sent the tweet is no longer an employee of KDOT.

Earlier this month, during a period of four days, there were six crashes. Seven lives were lost — all were not wearing seat belts. We urge everyone to be safe. Take the seconds to buckle up and encourage those you love to do the same. Seat belts save lives.

A total of FIVE snow plows were hit in KC in less than 24 hours. No one injured, but trucks out of commission slow our efforts. And more snow/ice is predicted later today in parts of the state. Please stay back and pay attention. We can’t help you if you don’t help us. #kswx

Several KDOT snowplows were hit across Kansas during the snowstorm, like this one in KC. These crashes caused injuries and one fatality, as well as trucks to be out of service for an extended time. This is why we continually stress to not crowd the plow. #GivethemRoom

If you want to avoid getting stuck in the snow, take our advice: If you don't have to drive, don't. If you do choose to drive, drive for conditions. Give yourself more time to get to your destination. Be patient with others and with our crews as we clear the roads. #Besafe

Due to the weather forecast. Some roads in Kansas may be slick. While anti-ice treatment was applied in some areas, please keep in mind that the rain may have impacted the effectiveness of the solution. Simply put: Slow down on your way to work, give yourself more time. #kswx

Take extra precaution on bridges. Because they are elevated, cold air impacts the surface faster than roads on the ground and wind impacts elevated structures more than something that is flat on the ground causing the temperature of the bridge to be just as cold as the air temp.
