for all the folks informing us we should have the roads open already, here is what your crews are STILL dealing with. The roads get opened when it's safe, not when it's convenient. Thank you for your patience, and be nice!
Earlier this month, during a period of four days, there were six crashes. Seven lives were lost — all were not wearing seat belts.
We urge everyone to be safe. Take the seconds to buckle up and encourage those you love to do the same. Seat belts save lives.
We wanted to take a moment to thank our important partners, the Truckers who help keep our grocery stores stocked, and commerce moving. You do an incredible job and we are grateful for you.
KDOT remains committed to keeping our highways open and Kansas moving.

4:25 Update:
I-70 is now closed to Salina; and several highways in western Kansas also remain closed. Do not travel during this storm. Stay off the roads and stay safe.
As the storm progresses, keep an eye on for updated road conditions.
Trooper Ben has some good points in this video:
-Should you be driving in weather like this?
-Stay home if you can
-Buckle up and drive slow
When we ask to give our plows room to work, its because we care about your safety!

During inclement weather, the speed limit is to drive at a safer speed, and that means slowing down and giving yourself more time to reach your destination and more distance between yourself and other cars.
Be kind and patient.
Check for road conditions
Rain is already falling across the state. And more is expected.
3 Things to Remember:

Hey Doug,
Seat belts are important. Here's an easier to understand reason why it shouldn't be up to the individual:
If you are in a crash unbelted, your body can actually become a flying projectile and injure someone else in your car, like the children you mentioned.

Stay safe, stay off the roads and stay home.
We are strongly urging everyone to please stay off the roads during this winter storm.

Passed over K-10 headed back to Topeka! Captain Vanderweide said when the

Several KDOT snowplows were hit across Kansas during the snowstorm, like this one in KC. These crashes caused injuries and one fatality, as well as trucks to be out of service for an extended time. This is why we continually stress to not crowd the plow.

If you want to avoid getting stuck in the snow, take our advice:
If you don't have to drive, don't.
If you do choose to drive, drive for conditions.
Give yourself more time to get to your destination.
Be patient with others and with our crews as we clear the roads.
