Today, the Justice Policy Institute comes to the close of its nearly 30-year journey. We want to share a final farewell note to reflect on the meaning of this work and to express our gratitude for your support.

Today, on our last day of operations, we are proud to share with you all that JPI has accomplished over the last 8 months in our 2025 Annual Report.

In 2011, JPI released a report titled "Due South: Looking to the South for Criminal Justice Innovations." The report dives into strategies Southern states are using to improve outcomes from their formerly and currently incarcerated residents.

In 2025, JPI released a report titled "Justice by Geography: Improving Pretrial Electronic Monitoring in Maryland." The report critically examines electronic monitoring and offers suggestions for improvement.

In 2007, JPI released a report titled "The Dangers of Detention:.The Impact of Incarcerating Youth in Detention and Other Secure Facilities." The report highlights the growing dangers of youth incarceration.

In 2016, JPI released a report titled "Improving Approaches to Serving Young Adults in.the Justice System." The report surveyed informed stakeholders on how to best support emerging adults.

In 2024, JPI released a report titled "Building a Brighter Future." The report focused on supporting DC's emerging adult population. Most notably, it advocates for the establishment of an Office of Emerging Adult Services.

In 2013, JPI released a coffee table book titled "Incarceration Generation." The book contains a collection of essays that highlight the flaws in the criminal justice system that lead to mass incarceration.

In 2023, JPI released a short documentary titled "Don't Abandon Us: Addressing Youth, Crime, and Trauma." The documentary highlights the lived experience of two individuals who were incarcerated for decades following convictions in their youth.

In 2018, JPI released a report titled "The Ungers, 5 Years and Counting." The report advocates for reducing long prison terms which would in turn save taxpayer dollars. The report laid the groundwork for the Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act in DC.
