I do not own my kids. I raise them, love them, care for them + guide them. Do I love my kids? Yes.Unconditionally? Yes.Do I own them because I birthed them? No.Do I own them because they live with me? No.Do I want them to be free to be themselves? Yes. They belong to themselves.

The burden put on users to navigate inaccessible, unusable systems that tax folks with neurodivergence is harmful. Is the process designed to create more friction than necessary? Do we aim to reduce tension and deploy ease?. What happens when we pit security against usability?.

My desk is a sit-stand desk. I have good internet. I move from my desk, to the sofa, table depending on what part of me is hurting. Just 20 minutes sitting outside can help me bounce back from a sluggish afternoon. I don't need the digital equal of the 3k office suit to perform.

I have worked remote for more than 5 years. This is elitist. I work where I'm comfortable in the clothing that meets my needs. I have a disability and a chronic illness. Neither the "lighting" nor "quality" of my camera play any role in my ability to do my job and excel at it.

There is disillusionment with the ability as a public service to embrace the diverse talent that comes with disability in favour of the comfort and status quo of those whom are entrusted to evaluate our worth, yet always find us lacking. Even against all odds, many of us exceed.

My own sense value questioned so many times. It meant adopting an approach of chronic oversharing. I used this as a tool. They used it as a weapon. I felt mentally defeated. Drained all of will you keep up the “good fight”. I was a burnt out candle who’s wick was too short. 4/5.

People take advantage of that mountain in the name of allowing lived experiences to guide us, yet suppressing it at every turn when it was meant to spur action. I felt like someone holding up recycling that was bound for the trash can. 3/5.

Disability isn’t a dirty word. Yet justification for existing as we are, requesting tools we need to thrive are routinely rejected. Some think we have made progress but I felt like a 1999s cd stuck on repeat. If there is a scratch that changes the path, it becomes a mountain. 2/5.

What does it mean to be a disabled public servant in Canada these days?. For me - It felt like a performance. Some masquerade between authenticity and profound spiritual and mental cost. Tell your story. Over and over again. But few with decision making power listened. 1/5.

After 3 natural disasters in a row we should be good right? . We had an ice storm that left us without power for 6 days, a week of clean up. Then a flood for 5 weeks, 2 weeks of clean up. Just had a microburst on the 1st day of our vacation. We are still living the aftermath.

We must not forget our past for the sake of progress. Progress in both products and services are radical and incremental all at once. Reflection is intrinsic to sustainable growth that builds on equity. Keep questioning, unpacking, unlearning and relearning. #ProductEquity.

In my hurry I forgot to add alt text. Alt: email notification from Amazon about shipment. The button is yellow and the rest is white. Low visibility.

Hey there @amazon could you help some folks out and make your emai for notifications more accessible? . You cannot read the “track your package” button on mobile running in dark mode. Yellowish backgrounds and white text are never a good look. #a11y #AccessibleUX #accessibility

If we are unwilling to listen or see value in things like how denial of access to a service impacts those in the disability community who may identify with various social identities. Harm and bias are important to address. So is understanding access needs + how they shift. 2/2.

I pitched a talk about product equity, maturity and direction to an accessibility org. They think their audience won’t get value out of it. Those who ignore a11y and those in a11y need to better understand the impacts product decisions have on structurally marginalized folks. 1/2.
