The city at night

We first noticed the smell, on our little kayaks downwind. As we paddled closer we saw him, head askew, limbs akimbo, tongue white with bloat. Bambi is dead. Long live Bambi.

The lake is artificial. It was “filled” in 1930, borrowing a name from Iroquois languages once proud for centuries. Now existing as awkward haircuts, carpet and flooring companies, kitschy trinkets and exoticized film media. The meaning mostly lost.
