I have many criticisms of Sunak and the Conservatives but we should all reflect that they have shown no hesitation in accepting the will of the people nor any hint of questioning its legitimacy. Citizens of other nations look on enviously.
I have given this job my all. But you have sent a clear message, and yours is the only judgement that matters. This is a difficult day, but I leave this job honoured to have been Prime Minister of the best country in the world. https://t.co/EhNsfIaGWM

PS. After witnessing the horrible show of the June elections in Mexico, the elections in the UK feel so nice, civilised and safe. Just… yeah, congrats on a beautiful democratic culture Britain!

In summary, the main takeaway from this election is that narrative and politics is not going to be enough to win an election anymore. People want results, effective government and no corruption. The electorate is volatile and there are no more safe seats for parties.

If they don’t want to be ousted from Holyrood in the next Scottish election they need to close the Sturgeon chapter and move on. Focus on effective government and leave the independence conversation on the side for a bit.

then nice, that was clever! If it wasn’t… there is still time to pretend that was the original idea. Let’s not kid ourselves, the SNP’s scandals and mediocre government undermined the party and were the main reasons behind last night’s collapse.

Finally, @theSNP took a humiliating defeat. If the plan behind getting John Swinney back to become leader was to have an old burnt cartridge taking the General Election defeat and then leave to make way for a new leadership without connections with the Sturgeon group…

@LibDems, it appears people have forgotten or forgiven your coalition with the Tories from 2010. If the Tory collapse is not contained, get ready for the possibility of becoming the leading opposition party in the next election, just stay away from scandals and you’ll be fine.

There is no point in radicalising towards the right, Reform has taken that niche and the number of potential voters on that side will reduce with time, look for younger votes. Finally, do get rid of incompetence and corruption in your party (if you want to survive going forward).

For the @Conservatives, first of all, change your leader. Second, take time to reflect on where you are standing in the political spectrum. My advise, float on the centre right. Appeal to the middle classes and small and medium entrepreneurs.

If @UKLabour fail, I feel the public might feel attracted either to a third party, like LibDem or (judging by recent results in mainland Europe) any of the parties in the extremes of the political spectrum. So please Keir, govern well.

A good point of comparison for Labour’s win is Milei’s 2023 triumph. Both ousted incompetent and corrupt governments. Labour taming the cost of living crisis as Milei is taming inflation in Argentina might be a great story line to secure votes.

@Keir_Starmer’s government is going to have to deliver results within the first two years of their tenure if they want to win the next election too. They must show they are better at governing than the Tories.
