Through our Community News Networks initiative, we've been collaborating with community colleges across the country to equip more people to participate in their local news ecosystems. Here are some highlights from our work in 2023 and what's ahead:

We first piloted the program with @CCPedu + @resolvephilly in fall 2021, and it has become a model that we’ve grown with community colleges and organizations around the country. Check out the original curriculum – we'll be updating and expanding it soon!

This week, in partnership with @CCPedu + @resolvephilly, we're kicking off the third installment of Community Journalism for Civic Power, a free certificate program equipping people in Philly with journalism skills to help keep their communities informed.

We’ll work with participants to produce a piece of journalism on the medium of their choice. We'll also connect them with mentors and other pathways to apply their skills and get involved in community news, like joining @FresnolandDocs.

We’re co-launching a new community journalism program with @fresnocity + @fresnoland! This is a paid opportunity equipping people in Fresno to respond to community needs through journalism and storytelling. Applications are open through March 31!

We're excited to help launch this new, free certificate in Community Journalism at @TriCedu! The program kicks off on 10/24 with support from Neighborhood Media Foundation and @signalcleveland.

The certificates will be based on the curriculum we developed for our Community Journalism for Civic Power program with @CCPedu. Check out a public version of the curriculum here:

With support from @NJCivicInfo, we'll fund at least three colleges in NJ to build free noncredit offerings that equip people with the tools of journalism to better understand what's happening in their communities, increase media literacy, and fuel stronger local news ecosystems.
