“Mistakes were made by me/us/our company.”.Make it active thusly: “We made a mistake.”.It’s a manipulative use of language meant to deceive by making it sound as if the issuer of the statement really didn’t have anything to do with those mistakes that were made . 3/.

Passive voice is used by commercial industries and politicians to avoid taking responsibility. It is equally fascinating and infuriating. Consider this: “Mistakes were made.”.What’s going on there? The subject is missing. Them. "They" are missing. 2/.
