Often times jazz pianists think about 2 chords at once. One for each hand. Gives you some very colorful voicings for extended and altered chords.

Shaun Martin (@Shunwun) was one of my favorite modern players, and a huge inspiration. RIP my friend. https://t.co/shet5556La

RIP Shaun. A true inspiration of mine. I met him several times over the years and he was so kind, generous and passionate about growing young musicians. This one hurts.
Yesterday, we lost a music legend and, more importantly, a beautiful, luminous human being. Shaun Martin touched so many people during his life and through the beautiful immortality of music, will continue to do so. There’s so much that can be said but words can’t do justice. RIP

@derraleves suggested I try to give it a boost with a new title and thumbnail in September and was pretty pleased to see this bump. Yes that little bump that is hardly visible now.

A few months ago @YouTubeLiaison told me that the algorithm never gives up on your video. This video is just over a year old.

I don't think AI Music is music at all. Learn more about why I have this luddite take, and why what I consider a Musical Turing Test is nowhere close to being passed with genAI in my latest video, out on Nebula and YouTube.

I love reading comments on my videos and having productive discussions. It’s probably my favorite part of being a creator on YouTube. But it’s also my least favorite and most discouraging part of the job. People can be so mean and cruel.

Good rhythm is like an eclipse. 99% vs 100% in the pocket makes all the difference. And no, I'm not talking about quantization.

Of course, there’s all kind of nuance to the production of that content to make it work, but without that intersection of excitement, the content has no chance.

It turns out, for me at least, that the sweet spot is finding the intersection of these 2. What is it about this thing that the public finds exciting that I am also excited about? It might be a tiny nugget, but that’s all it takes.

The things that often excite me don’t typically excite more than about 5 other people. And while that could be great for art, it’s not great for business. So the counter argument is to “create what excites others”… but that’s problematic too.

One of the things that has challenged me the most in my newish career as a content creator is the topic of what to make. So many people say, “make what excites you”… But it’s not that simple.

It really feels like the jazz/music theory needs on Twitter have all left the last 6 mo. It’s been quiet in here, and I’m wondering why I’m still paying my $8 to be here. 🤣
