We are conditioned to think religion, culture & tradition are untouchable. We've even invented a neat little term to help us look the other way; "cultural relativism." At some level, we all know this isn't true. Sometimes, traditions need to die. #circumcision will too, someday.

âťťDuring my 3 year midwifery internship, 18 boys who were circumcised had to be put in the nicu, 33 had complications and required a second surgery, 1 baby boy died. These are just the ones that we know of. We also saw several who had complications but the parents were unaware..

Some people think bringing up braces are an "aha" to intactivists. #circumcision would be more comparable to complete tooth extraction. All the excuses would apply. Dentures are easier to keep clean, prevent tooth decay, dental care is costly, and tooth aches aren't fun.

The foreskin is fused to the glans by a common membrane, which dissolves over time in the growing boy, often as late as puberty. For #circumcision that membrane must be ripped apart, a torture unlike any other.

A doctor's duty is to medicine, not religion or superstition. "It's my #culture, #religion, #tradition" is not a medical indication for surgery. Male infant #circumcision is a #scam.

Using #parentalchoice as an excuse for male infant #circumcision is contingent upon a dubious premise; that there is a parental choice to make. Without medical indication, Drs have no business performing surgery on healthy minors, let alone giving parents any kind of "choice."
