Anyway, scams work because they’re convincing to people who are primed to gear their message. That was Aspiration and Kawhi. It’s also the design industry and nature based solutions.

It’s all a distraction from the more more difficult work of breaking our field’s connection to the carbon bomb that is sprawl, highway expansion, and in many cases working directly for the fossil fuel industry.

This isn’t going to stop your fav designers from making claims to the contrary (most use either black box or bespoke models, or just flat out BS to justify their claims). But they don’t provide long term storage and may not even be carbon neutral to install/maintain themselves.

As much as I too wish that we could simply tree plant, soil amend, or otherwise conserve our way through the climate crisis, these modes of storage simply do not perform as advertised and every study/audit of existing forms of NBS/NCS this century tells us as much.

One extremely niche thing I wish I had time to write about involves the Kawhi Leonard scandal (a fraudulent tree planting company used to circumvent the NBA Salary cap) and its connection to the design industry scam that is nature based solutions + natural carbon sequestration.

this is so bleak. The tax dollars the people of the city of philadelphia pay should fund our public transit. We should not be dependent on GAMBLING COMPANIES

Online sports gambling is one of the worst things to happen to young people and to sports. I'm sorry, we'd be better off with a shitshow tomorrow

More tax revenue, higher budget allocations, etc. are actual solutions to the sabotage at SEPTA. Begging Lurie for charity is not.

I think it’s ridiculous to demand that a public service be funded through benevolent billionaires. The problem for SEPTA is a Republican controlled state legislature hellbent in destroying the agency. Everything else is a distraction.
Btw, per SEPTA the cost of the FanDuel sponsorship is around $80,000. It is fairly embarrassing for the @Eagles that they weren't willing to pay this to help their fans and the city.

I’m in @FT on Trump’s recent move to make the Pentagon the top shareholder in the US only rare earths mine. This is the “worst of all worlds” resource nationalism: a toxic mix of environmental harm, militarism, Big Tech, financial de-risking, and asset appreciation. Link below ⬇️

I feel like once a month, some horrible, deranged person I know/knew fairly well ends up being featured in the NYT.

Structural engineering? Ecosystem management? Multi-functional energy system design? I guess none of those things matter in the future imagined by Niskanen.

One reason you would use AI to make an image like this is because anyone with expertise in energy systems, ecology, or urbanism would tell you that nothing in this rendering is physically possible. The plant life, the cooling tower, the buildings/bridges, it's all nonsense.
Cascadian Abundance combines deep environmental commitments, especially around the need for rapid decarbonization, a commitment to urbanism, and a faith in technological solutions to environmental problems.

we have now reached the stage of reviewing cover art concepts for it (my fav so far)
Have reached the stage of my next book where I am drafting the acknowledgments. Turns out spending 8 years on a project that results in ~600 pages of content required a lot of support. Still kind of shocked that so many people invested so much in it/me.

This is obviously a depraved way to intentionally harm people in Philadelphia. But these guys clearly don't understand how much of the state depends on SEPTA in ways that go beyond Philly paying for all of PA's rural services + infrastructure.
new: As SEPTA cuts go into effect across the Philly region, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman is hosting a clay shoot fundraiser and the House Republican campaign arm is hosting a golf tournament https://t.co/BfrNFQsKQd
