🧵 I've tweeted cryptically of late about stuff not being good in our department at the University of Chichester, and with me in that context. So: about three weeks ago I was told out of the blue that our BA in Modern History was being axed and my post placed at risk. (1/12)

BREAKING: more than half of academics, attending a board of examiners for one of Durham's largest departments, were compelled to walk out of the meeting, in which hundreds of students were being awarded classifications based on incompletely marked modules.

I organised with other members ahead of #UCUcongress to propose a positive programme of solidarity with Ukraine, focusing on education & humanitarian work. Very glad this (motion 6) passed but upset motion 5 carried without @LeedsUCU amendments. We'll publish a statement tomorrow

Many UCU members are angry that, while passing a pro-Ukraine motion, their Congress also narrowly passed a Stop the War motion calling for no arms for Ukraine. We'll be organising push back. We also urge UCU members to support this important initiative. https://t.co/ZIv40LI1kH

In June, the official “Ukraine Recovery Conference” will meet in London, promoting a neoliberal agenda. Help us organise a counter-summit.

Update from #UCUCongress #UCU23 : unfortunately delegates passed both the NEC motion "Solidarity with Ukraine" and, narrowly, the Stop the War-initiated one, unamended. The NEC motion passed by a large margin, despite opposition; the STW one 130-121-37 p5

A strange victory, this. I feel like I lost a lot of things while I was fighting for my pension that I won't get back. Some of that was naïveté: the belief in the good judgement of my employers, the good faith of all my colleagues, and my faith in the university as an enterprise
BREAKING🚨: A new joint statement between @UCU and @UniversitiesUK has confirmed that USS pension benefits are on course to be restored in full All cuts imposed in April 2022 will be reversed, pending the 2023 valuation History makers ✊ #ucuTOGETHER

Yesterday our e-consultation closed on strike days in response to punitive 50% deductions. 84% voted to back strikes. This is avoidable if @durham_uni management remove the threat of deductions & publicly state @UCEA1 should re-enter negotiations.

BREAKING: under pressure from our branch KCL management has reduced the limit of punitive 50% deduction from 20 to 10 days: the max deduction is now 5 days of salary. While we reserve the right to respond, this shows that collective action works! Let’s keep up the pressure! ✊🏼

Wow! Monitoring figures for 31 March 2023 drop from @USSpensions, and show a *£7.6bn SURPLUS* and pre-cut benefits costing *just 21.8% of salary*! Expect these figures to change in the full valuation, but we're bang on track for a historic win. #ucuRISING

Membership of our branch has grown through the MAB. We are now close to 1500 members strong. No one takes this action lightly - either for staff or students. But this action is making us stronger & growing our movement & our branch. Let's keep recruiting! #ucuRISING
