Time to create an alternative code process where we can align cost, energy efficiency and decarbonization, without relying on the whims of a board who make decisions in a black box.

The @IntlCodeCouncil just trashed two years of work that almost 50 volunteers each hundreds of hours. It’s a broken process from an institution that can’t be reformed.

NEW: The gas industry has pulled off an 11th hour win in the big climate fight over building codes. The @IntlCodeCouncil's board went against its own staff experts to side with fossil fuel firms and gut pro-electrification measures from the latest codes.

📢 Seattle's #BEPS policy advances! These standards are projected to ⬇️the city's earth-warming emissions by 27% by 2050 and will play a big role in meeting their #climate goals. H/T @MayorofSeattle, @SeattleOSE + the building owners, tech experts, enviros, & labor orgs involved!

Seattle leaders are considering delaying the Building Emissions Performance Standards policy (BEPS), which would transition large buildings off fossil fuels. Tell Mayor Harrell: Send City Council the BEPS policy ASAP - the climate crisis can't wait! ➡️ https://t.co/Gpkeitt1GS

@CaltransHQ can do this *right now* without a bill. If @GavinNewsom is serious about being a climate leader, he should direct Caltrans to focus new federal highway funding on sustaining and transforming transit. Say this when you make calls to his office:

High heating bills are hurting Coloradans this winter. CO’s Energy Code Board can help ensure homes & buildings are wired for energy-saving electric appliances by moving forward w/its proposed building code, which expands #solar & #EV readiness.

Our analysis found that it costs 3x MORE to retrofit buildings for EV readiness than to incorporate it into new construction. 🏘 #CO can ensure their updated building code includes EV & solar readiness for new construction to save Coloradans money 💰: https://t.co/iHqwHVjCj9

Why: After a calm start to the campaign, things have recently heated up, and we’re hearing that gas industry opposition may be bussing in folks to derail the vote. We need as many supporters in the hearing room as possible to counteract the opposition.

What: BAAQMD will be voting on the nation’s first zero-emission appliance standards! If adopted, the policy will phase out the sale of polluting gas furnaces and water heaters starting in 2027 and enable widespread electric heat pump adoption in the Bay Area.
