The 25 Rules of Linebacker Play: Linebacker Rule #1: Trust your keys. They’ll take you to the play. Linebacker Rule #2: Play SQUARE. Linebacker Rule #3: Some blocks need to be destroyed. Some blocks need to be avoided. Linebacker Rule #4: Eyes before feet. Feet before hands.

If you want your LBs to be tough… If you want your LBs to be violent… If you want your LBs to be aggressive… Help them master the FUNDAMENTALS.

Linebackers: Attack HALF the blocker. Strike. Extend. Disengage. Then go make the play.

You find a new drill… It looks great… You steal the general setup… But it doesn’t seem to help your players. Why? Because you didn’t break it down to the BASIC points… Then build it back up to fit your system. Learn how inside THE LB LIBRARY. https://t.co/pmdSajZHtn

You know you’re coaching block destruction properly when your Linebackers stop catching blocks and start attacking them.

Coaches: Linebacker READS can be simple. Teach them where to look. Teach them what they’ll see. Teach them how to react. That’s it.

Common Linebacker mistake: Standing up tall right after the snap. Great Linebackers play LOW.

Linebackers will always be smaller than the Offensive Linemen they’re going against. But this ONE key piece of footwork can even the odds. Find it inside THE LB LIBRARY. https://t.co/pmdSak0fiV

Linebackers: The easiest way to miss a tackle? Drop your eyes to the ground. You can’t hit what you can’t see.

Your Linebackers will instantly improve once they learn to stay SQUARE as long as possible.

One detail separates good LBs from great ones. It’s not speed, size, or strength. And it’s not the feet, the hands, or even the eyes. It’s CONFIDENCE. Great Linebackers never hesitate. That’s how they make plays.

I’ve looked at this from every angle… And I truly believe the best way for a LB to read a play is with the TRIANGLE READ. (A primary read of the Offensive Line, followed by a secondary read of the Backfield.) The Offensive Line tells the story. The Backfield confirms it.

Linebackers: Game speed is different than track speed. If you want to play faster: Improve your reads. Take better angles. Study more film. Win the race to the point of attack.
