In case school didn't teach us why the non-partisan bureaucracy exists, it's so the political level doesn't interfere with the day-to-day operations of service delivery. That's true of board trustees as well. It's remarkable how this is being dismantled with zero public concern.

This is the most important issue in both Ontario and Canada. This is how our democracy lives and dies.
Ontario’s transparency watchdog says it has been forced to intervene “directly” with the solicitor general’s office after a “recent trend” in which the ministry responsible for law enforcement is defying quasi-judicial orders. https://t.co/WMSqdxVoxK

I can’t describe the depth of dread I feel to read CBC intends to use AI for, “Generating suggestions for story ideas.” I propose CBC should name the AI after the person who came up with that policy, as to credit them each time its “ideas” are imposed upon our public discourse.
CBC devalues its journalism by becoming no more than a YouTube channel. Now our national broadcaster is turning into AI slop. This is the enshittification of CBC and Canadian news in general https://t.co/p9MkdMMcZv

The connection between the policy of demanding that someone have enough disposable money to pay bail up front and them being a “repeat, violent offender” was obvious to all, and thus needed no explanation.
Canada’s broken bail system has let too many violent, repeat offenders out onto our streets too often. Today, we’re cracking down with tough new bail reform, including requiring full cash deposits to be paid up front as a condition of bail. Find out more:

Nishnawbe Aski Nation chiefs voted unanimously to demand that Canada & Ontario meet with them over the law-defying Bill C-5 and Bill 5. But it's clear they see this as existential. If it's not met at the table, it will be met in the courts and on the land. https://t.co/tX4RhgPBke

When Canada delivers its budget Tuesday, will it "get out of the way" on the proposed Ring of Fire environmental assessment, as Ontario Premier Doug Ford requested last week? Canada's not telling. I began requesting the answer on Oct. 29. Still no statement despite daily contact.
Will Canada abandon environmental assessment in the Ring of Fire? Doug Ford wants Ottawa to ignore First Nations’ warnings that drinking water, treaty rights, and the land itself are on the line. The latest from @JonSThompson: https://t.co/nZI95nm3B5
