This is unprecedented in my experience covering the board. It's unclear to me what investigative powers the ED has when it comes to gathering information, etc.

The Georgia State Election Board has voted to investigate county election boards over their handling of voter eligibility challenges in Fulton, Forsyth, Clark, Dekalb, and Gwinnett. The exec. director of the board, a former GOP state legislator, will be the investigator.

The bickering ended with a dark statement from Dr. Johnston about criticism of her and the other GOP appointees to the board: "Character assassination? Yes. Media murder? Yes. And lawfare lynching. And that’s where this is all headed, and I really don’t appreciate it."

It began with GOP appointees Janelle King and Dr. Janice Johnston taking issue with Democratic appointee Sara Tindall Ghazal's appearance on MSNBC last Friday.

@russbynum The judge said in court last week that he might rule as early as today in this case which is another legal test of local, direct democracy in Georgia.

@NYTnickc And the GOP-controlled board just passed a controversial rule that would require poll workers to hand-count all paper ballots, potentially leading to confusion and delays. Dozens of local election officials in the audience at the meeting are opposed to the rule.
