SPO Bloodworth proved his character & strong work ethic when he decided to stay with an elderly citizen in distress until he could ensure she received the care she needed. I'm also grateful to our public safety partners for helping during these challenging times.

I'm announcing my retirement as the Chief of the @Austin_Police with a heavy heart. I've come to this decision after a lot of thought. It has been an honor to serve this department and this wonderful community, and I know I'm leaving you in good hands.

These young officers faced a difficult situation and used their creativity to track the suspect to his location. Thanks to your quick actions and coordinated planning, no one was injured.   We're proud to have you on our team!

This story was on it's way to become every parent's worst nightmare but thanks to these brave officers and their quick response to the situation, we were able to reunite the child with her family. Thank you for protecting our families everyday!

The families of Ofc. Lindsey, Ofc. Traylor, Sgt. Urias, Firefighter Kelley, and Fire Battalion Chief Maher, have our deepest sympathy. We also want to thank the families for the sacrifices you've made to enable your loved one to serve our city in such a fine and honorable way.

This morning, we honored some of our fallen heroes at the City of Austin Public Service Employee Memorial Ceremony. Established in May 2011, the ceremony pays tribute to employees who lost their lives in service to this city. @austintexasgov @austinfiredept

Today @Chief_Henderson and I welcomed our newest Chaplain, Ken Farmer, during a pinning ceremony. APD now has a total of 9 chaplains of varying faiths and backgrounds working to support our staff and their families. Welcome to the team, Chaplain Farmer!

Today I had the pleasure to present IT Corporate Manager Steve Wright with a certificate of appreciation & Chief’s coin in recognition of his exemplary service while at APD. Steve was instrumental in many technology project implementations for us. Congratulations Steve!

I’m deeply sad by what happened in California over the weekend. My heart is with all of those affected.
