California is going to ban extra-loud commercials on streaming services (as they're already banned on broadcast services). Hopefully the services will turn down the commercials for everyone. via @StraightArrow__

If you travel on @Delta you really need to take this traveler alert seriously, especially if you buy a ticket for someone else. Thanks to @TheConsumerman for the heads-up.

My wife and I were blindsided by a poorly disclosed Delta Airlines policy that nearly cost us thousands of dollars.

I'm loving #NationalCoffeeDay - an opportunity to share our love of hot caffeinated beverages. Of course those who prefer iced coffee are welcome to the party too.

It's #StarTrek Day - at least in the US. Did you know the USS Enterprise was first seen in Canada? Happy #StarTrekDay
While #StarTrekDay (Sept. 8) celebrates the premiere of The Original Series, #StarTrek's world premiere was actually September 6—when "The Man Trap" aired on CTV in Canada.

Talk about nostalgia, AOL is finally shutting down dialup service after a third of a century of that nostalgic modem connection tone. When did you stop using dialup - or do you even know what we're talking about?

One of the problems with large language models is we conflate fluency with authoritativeness. If you're a convincing talker, people think you know what you're talking about, and that of course is not necessarily true for humans [or] AI systems - @lazowska via @geekwire podcast

Trouble with the holodeck - wait, the Enterprise on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has a holodeck? So wrong, but what a ride! Kudos to @christinachongx for following in @BrentSpiner's footsteps, challenging the computer to outwit her. #STTNW

I'm all for nostalgia, but I'm not sure that chips flavored like a 9 Volt battery are the kind of nostalgic that I'm looking for. What do you think?
dexerto.com
New snack company Rewind has released a chip flavored like a 9-volt battery, but it’s only available in the Netherlands for now.

Any idea what to do with used bread tabs? (Please, no more clickbait ads telling me to use them as emergency guitar picks or security devices.)

We're starting to get some momentum going on the Space Command Kicstarter Campaign, but it's going to take all our supporters to do whatever they can to help us get over the finish line! https://t.co/q0VhXIPWnb Thanks and all best, Marc

Hundreds of earthquakes at Mount Rainier today - the largest earthquake swarm since 2009 - but @USGSVolcanoes says no worries. Feeling better now?
An earthquake swarm began at Mt. Rainier, WA, at 1:29 am PDT on July 8. Map shows current swarm (orange) with all earthquakes located since 2020 (blue). According to @PNSN, hundreds of events have occurred thus far (max M1.7). This is the largest swarm at Mt. Rainier since 2009.

We were exploring various ways to obtain an immigration document in a South American country. On one attempt, we encountered two agents who hinted that the process could be expedited for a little incentive. As Christian missionaries, our principles didn't allow us to offer money

Congrats to Apple for adding Apple Podcasts to iTunes 20 years ago today. Apple didn't develop the underlying technologies, but they certainly helped popularize what became known as "podcasts." #TodayInHistory
